Removing Rear Brake Cables

    hey, im removing my rear axel and im having problems disconnecting ,y brake cables. Does anyone know the precise place to disconnect the cables?? I have found a connection box on the rear passenger side behind the backbox, is this the right one?? cheers james

    nope you disconect under the centre of car take the exhaust heat shield off and theres a 13mm nut slacken till ya can remove cables

    its the hydraulic brake cables, i have got the handbrake ones off!! cheers tho

    Hydraulic and cable aren’t two words that go together… hydraulic hoses?

    You can buy a special spanner that goes round more of the nut if you know what I mean? Almost a ring spanner but with a gap in so you can get it round the hose and deeper so that there’s less chance of rounding it off. They sell them in Halfords and aren’t that expensive. If that doesn’t work then try mole grips.

    Yeah take them off at that box and plug them up so you don’t lose all your brake fluid then you’ll only have to bleed the rears

    You got a new axle to go on? Have a look what hoses you have on that and try loosening the ones you have two of first incase you snap one

    im in the process of getting my new rear axel. The problem is that i have a mark 1 1998 vtr and the axel for sale is a 2001 mk2 one! will this matter?

    Should be fine I think any with 4 studs and disks will fit

    yes you can disconect the brake pipe's @ the compensator/bias valve. hope this helps
