Fitting a diesel engine...

  1. #1
Probably a silly idea, but would I be able to fit a 2.0HDi Engine into my saxo?

Just thinking of the possibilities with going to something Economical and this idea randomly came into my head!

    Has it been done before?
    Cheers

I dont think it will fit TBH, the HDI lump is kinda big for a saxo
  3. #3
Yeah i was thinking that, sure it might fit in there, but need a fair amount of work..
    Speedy reply!

It would be fast tho, especially if its the 110BHP engine
  5. #5
wud need shed loads of work! and cud ruin the weight distributioin and all there mechy shizzle!

The older HDi from say a 306 is 90BHP I think..
Yeah thought it would be a bit much.
    Ah well!
    Cheers

dude this same idea was started at a local scrapyard someone was saying if a 406 hdi engine would fit in a saxo and the mechanic said its never a chance but i heard theres a guy living in milton keynes well or somewhere near that who had actually done it put a hdi engine into the saxo but said it took ages and he struggled a lot but the chassis had to be sorted before getting it in, i personally think that the saxo cant handle that much weight lol

or u could put a saxo diesel engine into it

No way am i putting the 1.5 Diesel in, no point.
    Slower and stuff..
If the HDi is that much work i won't bother anyway
    Cheers though

not really sure about the HDi engine, I know naff all about it if im honest, but surely would only require the same amount of work to fit as any other 2.0 engine!
  12. #12
    Yeah i suppose it would..
Would be good to do, get one from a 406 thats 110 Brake..
Sorted, i get to keep my car!
Even though the reason i'm changing is is because its too small and not because of running costs... Damn! lol

the 1.4HDI 16v has 92hp as standard. but with a remap is closer to 120-125hp.

In theory is fits.... BUT its not a straight swap. custom-just-about-everything.

A guy did a C2 vts engine conversion... that was a lot of work and that engine more than likely have the same mounts, shafts etc etc.

I'd personally LOVE to do that conversion to mine. but i cant be arsed or have the doshy dosh dosh

No point putting a HDI in a Saxo really. The HDI engine as with most modern diesel engine are notoriously laggy and unresponsive. They also weigh in at a tone and so would really slow down your car. It would be a lot of faf on with a lot of down sides. If you want Economy just get the standard diesel or even a 1ltr petrol. Will save you a fortune and get even better mileage than the engine you are looking at fitting.

If you want to have a fast car that is cheap look more toward running your car on gas. There are many places that sell it these days and it does not cost much to convert a car.

I agree its a lot of work for what is going on man but the 1.4HDi is FAAAAAAAAAR better in terms of economy and performance compared to the standard 1.5D and the 1.0ltr doesnt even come close to the economy levels of the 1.5D.

The small HDI engines are still a very poor engine for a drivers car or cheap to run car. Just look at how much slower the HDI C2 is. HDI has a lot of turbo lag and is just not very willing in general, it has a very to narrow power band so you have to change gear all the time and they do not rev. If you want cheap to run fast it’s not the way to go really as it will not be cheap to fit and is slow. Run a VTR on LPG and it’s not slow but very cheap to run. If you don’t give a dam about go and just want cheap run a 1.5D on cooking oil or run a 1ltr petrol on LPG.

gonna have to disagree with you there man, I had a C3 HDi (8v) (70hp) which was very good considering the weight of the car. Handily enough my mate had the C3 1.4 petrol (75hp)... there was bugger all between them. which we compared time after time too.

I've had close to 85mpg from the c3 and that was back in the days where i didnt really intend to set out going for personal mpg records.

However i do agree with the 'laggy' feel to the throttle response. I think that's partly down to throttle by wire and as you say, the turbo. however with a remap the throttle response is said to improve.

now a generation down the line they have the 16v version with 92hp (so near vtr engine performance) albeit a slightly weightier engine. remap that and you have a little beast on your hands.

incidentally citroen have announced a C2 VTS HDi... thats the 1.6 16v. 110hp as standard typical remaps will put that up to 130-140hp

i want that as my next car

Why would you want a C2 HDI VTS? A C2 VTS petrol running on LPG will also be cheap ish to run but will be a lot more fun to drive. When on the track throttle response means a lot if a cars driven correctly.

Edit: as you may guess I am not a fan of modern diesels lol

It wouldnt go on the track. that's why i'd want a HDi.

I'd have the HDi - You get the mod cons of the VTS, good fuel econonmy, no outlay for converting to LPG, and it'll still be a little nippy motor...

Plus, you probably won't get quite as raped with insurance if you're young, though i may be wrong...

be ace that m8 those 406's aint that bad there would be alot of fabrication involved though
  22. #22
Yeah probably won't bother mate to be fair..
Though i have been offered an extremely cheap, high mileage 406 HDi...
52 plate, has had an engine rebuild though - 250k on it still..... Bit of a dog now too, but if its cheap, who cares! lol
