VTR or VTS conversion

  1. #1
    Hey all.

I want to do an engine conversion sometime before the end of the year and I can't decide whether to do a VTR conversion with a cam - remap - xsi box and all of those goodies or to do a VTS conversion with the drive shafts etc. Now obviously the VTS engine would be better (more power yadda yadda yadda) but my car is a flat arched and people think it is a 1.1 which I love. Now when I open the bonnet and people see a VTS lump in there, they will know it is rapid. But if I open the bonnet and see a VTR lump people will think it is either a 1.1 or a 1.4.

I have been looking for a single plug ecu VTS lump for a while and I just haven't found any decent ones, but VTR ones I have found plenty so the conversion could be done pretty damn soon and then cam it before xmas or santa brings me a cam for xmas, either way it would be done before a VTS conversion.

Now with a VTR or VTS conversion, will the down pipe be of a larger bore? If so I will have to replace that part of my (custom ) exhaust.

What do you lovely lot think then? I think a bit of "itsafastworld" text book knowledge will come in handy here

you dont drive with the bonnet open

camming a 8v lump + mapping will cost more.

pm tam on ssc about engines he owns a breakers yard.

a vtr engine wont be alot of a step up from your 1400 imo, and id personally want (if i was dropping a new engine in) to really feel it was worth it.

your custom exhaust - can you show me pics of the front flange at somepoint. as the bores wont matter as 99% of all collectors on manifolds are the same so it should fit.

and ive got a new name you homo

    hope thats of use vin

That is of great help .

Lol, I thought you had a stalker when I saw the name and then your avatar. But then I saw the post count and was like ah nope thats him .

Yea I do see your point about wanting to feel the difference. Tbh money isn't a problem, as I am now single so all of my money will be going towards my car.

I am still running the standard cat, so the exhaust bore is the same as standard. I think. I should really check tbh.

Lol drive with my bonnet open lol true. The other tiny weeny problem is my age, which is 19. But I have two years no claims soon enough which will help insurance a tad. Does anyone know of any insurance companies which deal with conversions?

How comes a VTR lump is more expensive to cam? I thought it might be cheaper as there is only one cam?? Or am I being a dumbass?

    Cheers for the replies guys

erm a few let you do conversions, but only a few let you use ky jelly.

im talking about overall cost. 16v engine say 750 yeah.
8v - gotta buy engine, buy cam, fit cam, then get it mapped, which could work out more than the cost of a 16v engine, for similar power. then what happens when you want more power? another engine conversion to 16v? which is more ball ache and ££££. so id say your best off starting with the better base engine for more power to begin with.

no i do have a stalker - its the drugs im on theyre making me set up seperate accounds and act like less of a cunt

if running standard cat then the exhaust question you posted is not an issue.

ring around insurance before doing anything though!

Yea ok cool. The 16v would be the better conversion, hardest as finding the flippin engine is tricky for a single plug. I know I will find one now, as I have jack all money. Grrrrrr. Tam racing you say. I shall drop him a pm on ssc and see what he says, cheers for that Ryan.

Hahaha, stop acting less like a cunt . Sounds like your growing up to me

Okey dokey, at least that is one less thing on my list.

I will go source a lump and then come back to this thread. No doubt it will have a name along the lines of "wooooooooooooooooo I have a vts lump". So watch this space (or thread if you will )

Would it be hard to find a loom? If so, then I would prefer to buy a vts lump with the loom.

Okey dokey. Well I will pop down to a few local scrappies and see what is about. There is never anything in the ones near me, apart from inbreds which stare at you the whole time you are there whilst drouling and talking about how much they are in love with their sister.

Don't forget the saxo. That will keep you young for many years to come. Hehe that rhymed.

Haha, I don't think I will let my mates make me a cocktail again. The last one I had smelt like petrol. Man it was so rough, but I drank it . One for the team

Right I am now whoring and talking in crap in my own thread which was meant to be serious lol.

I will take a lookey lookey on ssc and see what is about.

Cheers for that ryan. Hope your on the mend after your operation
