dont know so much bout the 1.4 16 valve gearbox but a total rebuild of your gearbox will be about 300 quid i woulda thought thats how much the quoted me in my bros garage , but his boss said that im best to search for a second hand 1 from a lower milage model but the only problem with that is you still dont know the condition of that either have a look on ebay could save you a few quid one for a vtr went on there the other day for 85 quid i was shocked how cheap it was but cos its such a heavy item people are not keen to post them so u have to pick up most mechanics will charge you for about 4 hours of their time to fit one also which can be expensive considering it wont even take them that long either hope this gives you a rough idea mate regards chris

HOw people pblow gearboxes is beyond me, I think some people need to learn to drive with mechanical sympathy.

also dont fit 1.1/1.4/vtr boxes to vts's they dont have sports ratios, and loose the whole point of having a vts in the first place

Must yust be down to using cheap oil / wrong oil / never having changed the oil or something. The boxes arent particularly weak, especially running a stock engine
