turbo a vtr

  1. #1
    I have a couple of questions about putting a turbo onto my VTR. At the moment i have got the turbo, 5th injector, a 5th injector controller, intercooler, manifold and down pipe, all of the other pipe work. i have also got a 1.4mm head gasket and uprated head bolts, a piper 270 camshaft. but what i would like to know is.

    1:as the 5th injector controller that i have got is a bit old, what would be the best way to controll the 5th injector, some people say the mf2 and some say a dastek, or do you run both.

    2: Would i need a eco conditioner on the car as well.

    3: What type of clutch would i need as well, what price and where would i get one from.

    4: once it is up and running would i need to have something to change the timing or will the cars original timeing be ok

    There are a lot of threads you may find useful if you do a search for mf2, turbo etc in this engine section.. however....

    If you get the fuelling correct you will not need to retard the ignition... and unless youre spending a lot of cash you wont want to be advancing it So, get fuel right and then leave the timing alone.

    Signal conditioner not essential, but is very useful.. again, theres loads of detail on the conditioner in this engine section... (search for trickyd post on this)

    Ive used most of the different fuelling setups, and by far the simplest and cheapest is to use the mf2 route, with an additional MAP sensor...

    Youre gonna need a paddle clutch... think AP Racing or OMP... You will get a decent package from GMC Motorsport.

    Hope this helps,

    thank you that has been a help... so i dont need to run a dastek at all then.

    @turbosax

    No there is a return from the fuel rail already Just T the fifth injector off the top fuel pipe with the white Tab!

    @pug106turbo

    I got the mainfold, down pipe and all the boost pipes from predator motorsport in St Albans.

    At the moment i an running an ihi rb5 which is off of uno turbo, i have been told that is is about the size of a t1, but i am looking at a t2 soon, as for the intercooler i am running a standard astra coupe intercooler, which fits with only a couple of modifications to the car.

    unfortunatley the VTR does not have a fuel return pipe like the VTS.

    Oh, Well bollocks to that then Forgot, the reg is under the back seats int it, that should have the return on it. You wont need a return from the actual injector, just the reg, which it has
