time for an oil change?

   ok guys/girls
   
   i'v had my car for coming up to a year now and during this time i haven't changed my oil. during this year i have covered around 10,000 miles. not sure how often the previous owner changed it either.
   
   so, do you reckon i should change it?
   
   is there a 'how to' guide on changing oil somewhere on this site?
   
   i've got a standard mk2 vtr, what oil would you recommend for it?

   As you don't know when it was previously changed, I would change it ASAP. Do you keep an eye on the level of the engine oil?
   
   If you really love your car, put a fully synthetic 5W40 in. Otherwise, a 10W40 semi-synthetic will be fine.

   I aim to change mine every 6000 miles. So would probably be a good idea, especially as you dont know when it was last changed.

   yeh check every few weeks...never seemes to really go down much

   Yeah you need to check the colour, if it is black and sludgy, it needs changing

   Do mine every 5000 miles. infact the last time it was changed was when it went in for the headgasket. :| cheers for the reminder haha

   i do mine as much as possible, last time was only after 1k miles but oil aint too much and keeps car running fine

   Mine was last changed 9k ago (in april) though i was aiming to get it changed at 6k but ive been busy so havent got round to it yet......will do it soon though ive got the oil filter waiting just need decent oil
   
   Although my oil still is clean but still best to do it
