Worth Doing?

if i get my box all built, is it worth replacing clutch? its fine not having any problems with it at all?

also if i have box off when fitting new one, can you tell by looking if its ok or not?

not sure on bits like this, stil learning

    any advice would be ideal
  2. #2
you can kinda tell mate feel around it and see if there is like any ridges on it and + the look of it- if its nackerd it will look total black and will smell really bad

hope this helps you a bit

best way to find out if its nailed is to take it off and look at it
  3. #3
yeah, i thought that would be case, but as said still tryin to learn bout it so thought id say first

just need my box doin next lol

Check play on the input shaft when the box is off, spin the shaft and listen for rattling/droning. If you take off the input shaft seal you can have a look at the main input shaft bearing. It has a plastic spacer race which is the most common part to fail. Have a check of that.

Dependent on mileage, how hard you drive the car, and how stop/start your driving is, its maybe worth changing the clutch when the box is off.

the box going on it one with a diff, so maybe best to change it

unsure if il get it fitted up here, or if ryan knows somewhere down there to get it sorted

also whats your name?! or can i just call you bastard?
  6. #6
yeah im still learning aswel but ive done my bit on boxes and clutches on saxo as they are a nightmare for boxes

anyway hope you get on with it alrite

Just change it if youre unsure.

possibly cheaper mate...dingbro or euro car parts you will get cheap as chips
  11. #11
Yeah Valeos are about 80 I think from GSF. Lasted me ages with fast driving on a standardish engine.
  12. #12
that will do, wont be for months but stil may as well
  13. #13
Just replace it for peace of mind if the box is of might had well lighten and balance the fly wheel to
  14. #14
cant be arsed with that, not gona save much weight, is there any advantage to lighten and balanced fly wheel?
  15. #15
in theory should make it rev quicker
  16. #16
You cant get much weight off it… BUT just a small amount taken off the flywheel is equivalent to loads more weight taken from the car… imagine putting a passenger in the passenger seat… your power to weight ratios just gone down loads… now imagine strapping a passenger to your flywheel… not only does the engine have to accelerate the passenger forward, it has to accelerate him round too BUT…

The engine accelerates quickest in neutral... so in neutral it will pick up quicker… 1st will be less so and 2nd less so again the rest of the gears it wont make much difference

Think that something like 1kg taken off the outer radius of the fly will equate to about 40kg taken from the boot of the car in 1st gear… less in 2nd and hardly anything in the rest of the gears BUT…

I don’t think 1kg can be take off the standard fly… so the effects are hardly noticeable… apart from in neutral… best bet is to get a new flywheel altogether BUT… they are extra expensive for the gains you will get… so wouldn’t bother tbh lol

Bit of an essay there lol
