Clean engine bay

  1. #1
I've just bought a Saxo, it's not to bad 1998 R reg with 47K on the clock, 3 door 1.1i.

Pretty nippy but I'm basically looking to start to get it modded. Will be my first Saxo to mod. I'm starting with the engine bay, anyone offer any advice for some good reliable mods for performance?

Also anyone have any tips on how to clean the bay nicely, I'm really wanting it so it's nice and clean and shiny hahah

tbh mate, you wont get much out of a 1.1 in the way of more performance.

best off doing somw cleaning and tidying up jobs, like painting and colour coding the engine and then maybe lower it if you want, but save the money for bigger and better, e.g. vtr or vts.

Yeah I only really looked at the VTS after I bought the car...typical huh?

Any ideas on how to clean all the nuts and bolts? Know it sounds stupid but a solution like cleaning pennies in coke?

    Cheers

most nuts and bolts will be rusty as hell so maybe best to just replace them

yeah, just replace anything thats really rusty or nasty looking, but to clean off any stick on grime, grease, oil etc, there are quite a few good things to use,

muc-off (for bikes but i found it works well)
    jizzer
    autoglym engine cleaner
    autosol metal polish

and lots of elbow grease, will then have a nice tidy engine bay.

If a bolt is rusted, replace it as Baz says.

Thanks for the advice Spot on.

What do you think would be best to do with this 1.1?

Just keep it for a while then buy a VTS? Or add some style to it haha

keep it real clean and tidy and just altogether in good nick, and save up for a vtr or vts.

If you're stuck with the 1.1 for a while (like moi) due to insurance etc. do the mods that can easily transfer over to your next Saxo. Certain Engine mods may be hard to remove and not worth it in the long run. Things such as buying a decent back box, possibly a boot build? spraying vent covers, smoking headlights (careful when selling on), It doesn't have to cost a bomb in the long run.

But maybe you'll do such nice mods to the car that you may one day drop a nicer engine in, like a VTS' engine who knows.

Have fun on whatever you do and goodluck.. Post some pics
