Cam,manifold?

  1. #1
Need abit of help on which to go for here? Finaly getting abit of money through and dont no wether to go for a manifold or cams? Really both are needed but which to go for first?

    Cheers

You need to sort out your breathing mods before you fit cams really (well, before you have the cams remapped anyway)

So you will first be looking at a full exhaust system & manifold, your induction & then cams & a remap.

If you plan to take the car further afterwards, then perhaps standalone management should be purchased and remapped instead of remapping the stock ECU

But then out of the two, the manifold is obviously needed first...
  4. #4
Yes, the stock manifold will cause too much restriction in air flow if the stock camshafts are changed for aftermarket ones. (typically 262 duration)

Cheers, just wasnt too sure wether i could have got anyway with caming it first, but i will go for the manifold. Still not too sure on what brand to go for bt might just go for the racland mani??

Your profile says a 1.4 saxo, why not use the extra money to upgrade to a VT* model!
  7. #7
?? was thinking about it but, just wanted to add a few more mod's to the car as it stands!

If you're going for cams then you may wanna spend a little more and getting a better quality manifold... You get what you pay for mate...

Iv seen a cammed 1.4 make the same as a standard VTR. Thats with the mild piper 270 cam.

Maybe not, on SSC they did a testof the cheaper racelnad manifold and filter etc. against more expensive items green filter/ supersprint mani, and found 0.3bhp difference. Obviously not taking into account differences as standard. They concluded that breather mods do the same thing generaly as they dont do that much difference.

    I stand corrected

The raceland item is thinner than the piper (for example) manifold. So while it will still offer roughly the same performance it wont be able to sustain for as long as the more expensive items & that means its flooding the enginebay with more heat.

I think belly_vts has an image of his cammed engine making the raceland manifold glow red
  13. #13
yeah, it was his avatar pic.

but yes, generally they all do exactly the same, just the more you spend, will mean thicker material.

cheers fot the info guys, has anyone got the gmc manifold, or no wether its a better one? im not wannting to go too muuch over £200!
  15. #15
Dont get a 4-1 manifold. The torque cure isnt as well spread as the 4-2-1 and gains are not as good.
  16. #16
yea was thinking of getting the 4-2-1 but GMC claim that their 4-1 is just as good cos its "well made"! Honesty what is the best brand to go for?
  17. #17
As explained above it doesnt really matter. They all give very similar gains. But supersprint are better quality than raceland if that bothers you. But obviously you will pay more for it.

    I have the raceland 4-2-1.
  18. #18
I've got a raceland too. The GMC manifold is a Piper 4-1
  19. #19
lol i just got of the phone to eurostyling there and for the supersprint manifold inc VAT and PP its £305.44. Think thats just abit on the expensive side lol bt thanks again for the info!

thats pricey, £135 from Kam deliverd mine was.

go for the raceland 4-2-1, many peeps have it and it is very good for the price, and for that extra bit, just heat wrap it.
  22. #22
yea think im just gona go for the raceland manifold cos im not needing something at £200-£300!
  23. #23
dont the raceland 4-2-1's hang lower than the front bumper????
  24. #24
Im honestly not too sure lol but i want a manifold so i think th raceland will be mine soon!

you sure, i dont think mine does.

My raceland is fine doesn't hang below the bumper..

As you have a Furio mate its a VT model with a 1400 engine, so play with it..

Thats what i have been doing..:d

cheers m8, any ideas for me?
  28. #28
Depends where you want to go with it..Mines a full on track car..No radio or anything, stripped right out with carbon floot trays etc..
