Smooth Boot

  1. #1
    Hi

After fitting 17" wheels on my vts i feel more confident and going ahead with other modifications.

My next task is to smooth the boot over and i was wondering what tools i need to do this? when i had a nova i did this modd myself by welding a steel plate on then using filler over the top. after that i sent it 2 a spray shop 4 the fininshing. cost me £80.

i know its about £250 2 have this job done but was wanting 2 save a bit of cash and do part of the job myself then do the same as i did with my nova and send it 2 the spray shop 4 finishing

Anyone done this?? or any advice??

same idea as the nova mate, weld then fill.

Though your going to have to sort a way to open the boot. You can just have a wire haning inside the boot to pull and release it, thats the cheapest way, you could also have a solenoid to release the boot, easiest way would be to wire it to the wiper motor so it activates when you flick the rear wiper switch, or the harder way of running new wires and a switch

mine cost me £200 and i just have a wire on the boot release!its a bit of a chew on but i dont use it that much!

a £100 thats really cheap!it depends how they will do it tho cos for a £100 they may just fill it and not weld a metal plate ova the number plate recess! id make sure 1st! maybe wrong tho!

humm yeah i think so 2. will hold back 4 now.

saxo nut where did u take urs?? did they steel plate it??
  10. #10
mine was roughly £250 to do. Only thing about doing it yourself, is that unlike the nova , the saxo has a recess line in the boot. Which if I remember correctly the nova has literally a straight boot line?
So you have to be really good with the old welder, fibreglass and filler matey!

cheers alex will have a think about that. my nova was quite easy 2 do with the flat boot ive had a look at the saxo boot and it doesnt look so easy but i still might have a go. if it goes wrong it goes wrong. ive got that modding bug and cant get ridd (damm thing get out my head)thing is my vts is worth quite a bit more than a nova gte and i didnt give a monkey about it.

mine was done up here in middlesbrough at my local body shop called century auto refinishers! they are a bit expensive but they do good jobs which i dont mind spending that little bit extra! ive had all my work done there eg, de-locked,colour coded, mirrors fitted and sprayed, and the boot flushed! yeah they put a plate on mine! cost £200

be different prices all over the place.
£50 I'd say would be a fair price!

  20. #20
u mean u have started to put a solenoid on?if so is it on the rear wiper switch?
  21. #21
    separate switch matey
  22. #22
was it hard to fit??i aint the best with things like this but if i put my mind to it i could probs do it!
  23. #23
Not to bad, had a mate helping me. Had to stop though when I got called into work!
  24. #24
Bit of a pain threading wiring through the bootlid though. Did it by attaching a nut and bolt to the wire and dropped it down the hole, and let gravity do the rest ...!
  25. #25
how much was the kit?an where from?
  26. #26
    here

thats the one I got from ebay
  27. #27
how much is the job to smooth the boot anyway?
  28. #28
can range from £150 to what mine was at roughly £250 depending on job/company quality. Or DIY it, but I wouldnt recommend that if you are not good at bodywork and welding!

I had loads of other stuff done when I got my boot flushed, so came to alot more, but I worked it out roughly
