Getting More BHP?

  1. #1
    Hello All

ive had a VTR for 4 months now and im really looking to get more BHP out of it. as always money is an issue i want to limit my spending to a grand for the time being, can anyone please advise on what i should have done first?

And also does anybody know anyone in the Brighton area who deals with car tuning for saxo's?

    cheers in advance

stripping weight out is free and improves power to weight.

Suspension allows you to accelerate faster and corner faster.

Mintex 1144 pads would help stop better with Castrol Super dot 4 brake fluid to cope with the heat.

That still leaves £500 or so for power mods
Enclosed inductionsion, 4-2-1 manifold and a Group N exhaust.

    pretty much blows your budget

can you point me to some good websites where they sell the bits you have mentioned

perhaps MSW for the brake pads, I think halfrauds do the brake fluid.. Certainly demon tweaks do

as for the rest of it.. have a look at our prices for parts. Certainly the likes of MSW, Europerformance, Demon Tweaks all have their ranges too. If you want specific recommendations on parts just ask on here. Lots of knowledgeable people.

Simple breathing mods such as Airfilter and Exhaust combos normally work well.

Tyre and suspension upgrades will improve the car in a different way.

Stripping is a great, cheap way of increasing performance out of a car but its not to everybodies tastes.

I, personally, have gone for simple breathing mods, middle or the road suspension setup and quite abit of weight watching including lighter wheels and found that to be the best £ for £ mods that increased performance

would say Kams list is spot on and i also agree/have done the same as vts_16v_boy.

lighter wheels, stripped interior, breathing mods and some money spent on sus, brakes, bushes and the like.

if your car has the handling capabilities, then it will be able to go faster round a corner, giving you that extra advantage when your on the straight.

Depends on what type of performance you want.

    Straight line or track.

If your looking for 0-60 speed or straight line then improving your airflow system as a total would be the best idea.

    For example:

With the vtr i plan on buying im looking at the following, BMC cda airfilter, performance inlet, 4-2-1 manifold (if you want to improve lower revs get a 4-1) then ill be adding a magnex decat system.

Those are my 1st plans other than suspension and brakes, alot of people make a mistake on working on one part of a car then another. But you may aswell focus on 1 area of the engine first IMO.

Sort out the air flow system from front to back and you'll notice a diff, to add to that look into a bcm short shifter and fit it yourself.

Once you've sorted that out to some TLC touch ups, new plugs, leads, oil, filters etc etc. After that you could either remap or work on the head, cams, pistons, lifters etc can all improve the cars performance.

If you do everything, increase your rev limiter + get a rolling remap and your sorted!
