Fitting a GE Quickshift Guide

  1. #1
This is for the fitment of the below quickshift

    http://www.griffiths-engineering.co.uk/

    tools required are

    • 19mm Spanner
    • 6mm Allen key
    • Possibly a can of wd40 can help if its a bit stiff

    1. firstly jack the car up on axle stands then locate where you are going to be working, the gear linkages are located up behind the oil sump and are easily reconisable, (if you also follow your diagram you get with the GE component you will be able to see clearly which you are working on)
space can be tight which is nothing new i guess to saxo owners!

anyway heres what you should be able to see......

    2. im not sure of diffrent models differ with there ecu wiring but in mine it was in the way. simply tie wrap this out of the components reach. we decided to loop it from the top of the engine bay and tie it suitibly upwards, but whichever way works best for you in your mind really.

    3. now use the spanner to prise the gear linkage and ball joint apart in the position located below, wd40 can help here if stiff...

    4. the parts will now become seperated and its time to get your GE component on!
simply slip the shaped insert over the ball joint and pop the gear linkage to the new ball joint on the component (as show in the pic below)

    5. tightening with the allen key can be a bit tricky, firstly relax the locking nut then tighten as much as you can with the allen key before then tightening the locking nut.
    6. now testing the gears would be a good idea incase of any obstructions, all being well here your done and complete and test drive your new shorter throw gears!!

remember this is just a guide to help and all work must be done carefully and at your own risk!!

thnaks to vtr_jam too who helped with this!

  7. #7
be doing mines next danny boyo
  8. #8
Good guide mate, I'm very tempted by one of these.
What did you think of it? is the gearchange better?
  9. #9
when i tested it just by feel after fitting my first thoughts were not much diffrence.
until i drove it then you can feel its a whole lot tighter and less throw, jam also had a test drive and he's been convinced enough to purchase!
  10. #10
time your 0-60 with a stopwatch, see if its improved lol.

if you change gear like a fucktard ull break synchors no matter what
  18. #18
the griffiths quickshift ne good then??
  19. #19
does it reduce the throw front to back or side to side?
  20. #20
Front to back, I'd say about by 50-60%.
  21. #21
i just fitted mine and it does work, shortens the shifts a lot, i can get a video of it if anyone wants it, just i havent got any before pictures unless i take it off and then do it

Doesnt this depend on how you fit it?

There is only one way to fit it.
  24. #24
yep only fits on one linkage

its the one near the sump
  25. #25
still need to fit mine, asked the guys at a local garage to do it while they did my tracking but they couldn't see where it went

gonna have a go at it myself soon
  26. #26
yeah i couldnt find it at first was taking the linkages off on the wrong side, basically its more near the drivers side of the sump just look up, its the only one there
  27. #27
    Sticky Ftw
  28. #28
looks awesome! Cheers for the guide, repped

    http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2ldzuvm&s=3

    and heres mine after

  31. #31
Are the older style ge quickshifts the same to fit?
  32. #32
    Anybody??? Rep given
  33. #33
hi when i fitted mine, nearly everygear the quickshift on the linkage hits some wires/tubes or w.e. they are and i heard from someone tht u cable tie them out the way. ive tryed doing that and it reli difficult. anyone else have the same problem?
  34. #34
Yeh, hit the loom on mine, i cabled tied it out the way no problem.
  35. #35
yeah cable tie them out teh way!
  36. #36
i tryed to cable tie them out of way but i dunno what to cable tie them to, and i havnt got axel stands so i cnt get in form underneath i have to come in from the top and it reli hard to find the loom tht in the way and evn get the strength to move them from the pos im in
  37. #37
There already cable tied to something pal, you'll have to cut that one first.

Probably would be easier to do it from underneith tbh
  38. #38
yeah easier from underneath there is a thick set of cables higher up i just cable tied mine to them!
  39. #39
has anyone ever used this with a normal quick shifter, like KAm DOES.
  40. #40
i thot it was very easy to do from the bonnet on my vtr, took me 5mins. take ur air box/filter off and its easy done!

    great guide cheers mate
  42. #42
Thinking of getting one. Does it reduce the movement in the gears?
  43. #43
It reduces the movement of the shift, by about 60/70%.
If you have driven a ZetecS its a bit like that.
  44. #44
Brill guide tried to fit mine but proved harder than i 1st thought, just cant get the joint apart, ill just have to keep trying it until it comes off. easy to get at from the top if you have an indution kit.
  45. #45
is it as good as a b&m etc?
  46. #46
    ^^ for the money, yes

great. ill be getting one asap
  49. #49
    great guide
    cheers
  50. #50
Any difference between these and the type that goes on the gaitor etc?

Was planning on getting the later but hadnt seen these until now

    Good guide BTW
  51. #51
    this worth buying then people?
  52. #52
yeah is, its a bitch to get on though tbh u need small allen key and spanner as the rod it goes on is the far left one behind the engine. you have to get it on tightttt as it will come off. it does slightly stop the gear stick wobbling and the shifts are like half as short
  53. #53
Just make sure you cable tie all the wires out the way ... otherwise you'll do what i did last night, feel a bit of force against the shift and bam, lose the oil temp gauge.

Doh. Wire ripped out of the sensor due to it being wrapped around the quikshift.

  54. #54
i got one and just banged it in. took me about 10 mins to get on. love it
  55. #55
what gear linkage is the one in the pic? im new to this forum! just bought a saxo vts.. i just put new linkages on it! just bought a ge quickshift for it! and does it stop the floppness of the gearstick? thankls luke!
  56. #56
    standard linkages
  57. #57
is it attached to the small ones or the big one?
  58. #58
can you run this with a B&M short shift aswell, will that make a big difference?
  59. #59
Couldn't get them apart so gave up lol

try using an open ended 13mm spanner works a treat

also its even better with the kam racing solid gear linkages
  61. #61
i tried everything, just didnt want to part from each other lol
  62. #62
is it ok to use this with these that i just brought ?

  63. #63
^^ if they fit then yes, you need to make sure you have the metal pins in that hold them in place though

LOL i tried to fit one of these things eariler without any instructions and I didnt have a effin clue were it went, now I know cheers guys
  68. #68
I fitted it but the throw is still too far! Lol I'm gonna make some mods to reduce th throw more
  69. #69
Any chance of the pictures being put up again please?

Also, does it stop the play in the gearstick when its in gear from left to right?

    Thanks,
    Dan.

looks good ned to get one
  71. #71
Im fitting mine 2morrow are these all the same throught the saxo range? Ive got a vts.. N its the joint on the main linkage fron the gearstick at the engine end just to confirm as i havnt look at mine yet
