my ignition barrel collapsed on my saxo 1.1i s reg the other day causing the key to be jammed in and in the on position. today we have swapped the ignition barrel and black cap which we tok out a wrote off v reg it connected in fine no problems and it worked, better than my orignial the airbag light didnt even flash, took it around the block and got back went to start it and it wouldnt work the key light flashes and it just wont kick in, i have checked all the wires, but i am under the impression that the black cover over the barrel reads the key for the imobiliser and i have the new key and barrel with the old cover, but it worked once and not again HELP!!!!!!
key light flashing saxo wont start

#2the flashing light is the immobiliser check that transponder (the black sleeve part) that goes over the barrel is pluged in ok
-
#3thanx that confirmed that that was the transponder it is all plugged in ok, could i be the key code, does the car want the code from the old key, i have tried swapping the metal key to the other fob for the new barrel and that didnt work thanx for the quick reply

#4THis has been happenin 2 my car a few times all i do is turn the car off take the key out then put it bk in and its ok???
-
#5i have tried and retried the igntion no luck

#6i wreckon its one for the citroen guys!
-
#7unless keys needs recoding??
Transponder in the key may not be recognised, dunno why it only worked once though . Have you tried your spare key, if you have one ?? -
#8it shoudl recognise the key, i dont think the transponder ring is coded in any way, all it does is rely the code to the immobiliser that it gets from the key
-
#9could i get teh code from my old key put on the new key? to save nme shelling out for a ecu, or is there a way to bypas the imobiliser
-
#10aha did you get new keys that were different to the old ones? if so then you will need your old key and basically stick it behind the barrel next to the transponder ring. This is the cheap way but the car will be permanetly immobilised unless you have an after market alarm. the expensive way is to get new coded keys from shitroen

#11I got one my spare key recoded for £25 , because for some reason it would not start the car , as it did not shut off the immobiliser
-
#12You could try having the key recoded (don't take it to Citroen, an independent auto-electrician will be able to sort it for less) but at the same time make sure that all the wiring is in good order, not just the wiring around the transponder but the one that leads between the battery and the ECU. That's what happened to mine, spent loads 'fixing' a problem that turned out to be a corroded wire!!
