de wipering question

  1. #1
    hey,

am thinking of dewipering my mk1 vtr. have read the guides etc and seems fairly straightforward - apart from the battery situation.

i have got an aftremarket kenwood radio/cd in the car at the moment, so would i lose my settings or would the radio need resetting with the key code thing if i disconnected the radio?

    thanks in advance
  2. #2
You will lose the settings yes, but tbh, you don't have to disconnect the battery. I did mine last weekend and didn't bother disconnecting.
  3. #3
Yeh i done mine without disconecting the battery and it was fine

    Martin.

oh rite ok its just every guide ive seen, ie on here and in the max power book, it recommends disconnecting the battery.

    is it really easy then?
  5. #5
no point disconnecting the battery, i didnt.
  6. #6
fair enough then, wont bother disconnecting it.

did you buy the grommet etc from peugeot dealer?
  7. #7
grommets you can get from halfaurds(comes in a pack of 3 and you want the middle sized one) works out about £1.50
but if you want the proper pug one the parts numbers are around somewhere just got to use the search.

and as for the battery thing, dont dissconnect it, its just there so if you decide to cut the cables and put them on each side of your head you cant turn round to haynes or max power etc and say "i got electrocuted because of your guide, im sueing you"

dont cut the cables btw lol that was just an example

    Pug ones are discontinued....
Halfords ones you want a 22mm mate
  9. #9
i did mine today and couldnt get the 22mm grommit from halfords to fit no where near ?! ive had to come up with something to fit for now (used ax window mounts lol)
  10. #10
hmmm how was the fit for 22mm, smaller or bigger?
  11. #11
the hole seemed to small for the 22mm grommit and i couldnt be botherd with going back to halfords so just used what i could find lol but maybe it does and i wasnt trying hard enough ?
  12. #12
what so the hole was too tight to fit the grommet in?
  13. #13
yeah hole to small and grommet to big ! but that was for me but other ppl have got it to fit so maybe i have a dodgy rear window or something ?!
  14. #14
i got the 22mm one and i cant get it to fit. I think it needs a 21mm one but i cant find them anywhere. But as a quick fix you can take the orgional gromit and either put a 19mm one in it or one of the plastic screws fit in it too.
  15. #15
i heard somewhere there is a grommet in the boot floor thats not doing anything you can take out and it will fit but never tried it ?

    original grommit?
  17. #17
the one with the hole in that you take out when you take the wiper out
  18. #18
Just order the gomment from citroen/pug.It is really easy to do mate just dont pull in the wiper arm to hard and smash your rear window like i saw a thread start the other day where someone done it.Just cut the wiper arm if its really stuck on.
  19. #19
    22 fits perfectly in mine...
There is a grommit under the carpet, towards the back of the boot (near the rear seats)
  20. #20
22m wont fit straight in without some effort so remove the inside boot trim panel and use some elbow grease to get it spon on so it fits flush

I was a lazy bastard and made two halfrauds gromits into one and then took the stuff back
  21. #21
I'm guessing the Mrk2 hole might be bigger then the Mrk1 then. Remember to lift up the little cap on the back of the wiper and undo the bolt i forgot to do that and spent a day trying to pull it off before i realized it was there.
  22. #22
and dont do what i did, smash my back window haha!
  23. #23
managed to get a 22mm in mine now, like Redbullet said just takes a bit of effort and you need to get at it from both sides. I used a tiny flat head screwdriver to pull it though from the back. Looks miles better now.

hmmmm gonna have to give it a go when i get a chance then arnt i ! just a shame there a bit small as some how the wiper has cut in to my class, thought it was just muck and tried scraping it away but its like worn the glass away !
  25. #25
    Told you it'd fit...
    Does look better mate

    agreed !

yea my glass has loads of scratches on it plus the big ring around the gromit looks well bad.
  29. #29
i put disconnect battery in the guide as a precautionary measure, its up to you really, tbh its just in case anything shorts out on the metal and could cause further damage
  30. #30
yea, all the connectors are in plastic block so its pretty safe to not bother disconnecting it.

Has anyone else removed the rear washer jet? cos i did but iv noticed alot of people have just left theres in.
  31. #31
i just left mine in, i may want it back on when i come to sell it etc

    silicone underneath

gives it extra protection from water plus it makes it stick
