Torsion Bar Issues

  1. #1
My Vtr Used To Be Around 4 Inches Off The Ground At The Back.
Just Put It Through Mot And Had To Change The Complete Rear
Beam. It Now Looks Like A Hot Rod!
Got A Mate To Look At It Today, Although He's A Great Mechanic
He Does'nt Work On Cars So Does'nt Know The In's / Out's Of The
    Torsion Bar.
Can Anyone Give Us Anyu Clues?

Dumb moment but do you mean it looked slammed?

If so the part they used could have been either re-con or from another saxo/pug which was already lowered

Why did you have to put a new rear beam on it?

    I don't understand what you're after?

Im Trying To Lower It Back How It Was.
I Supplied The Rear Beam 2nd Hand And It
    Had'nt Been Lowered.
It Looks Like A 4x4 On The Back End!

Needs time to settle on your car but i would have got it lowered when the new bar went on
and lost the range rover look

Call Me Old Fasioned, But I Thought The Car Would Have Been Given Back To Me The Same State It Went In?

Are you going to lower it yourself?

If you only asked the bloke to fit the rear beam then thats all hes going to do.How much did it cost by the way?

Im Doing It By My Self. I Was Told To Get A Complete Rear Beam To Save Money. Was Not Told Anything About Ride Height.
Beam Cost £230, Labour Cost £175.
    Hence Diy Lowering.
Got It Stripped Today But Could Not Pull Out
Torstion Bar? Dont Know If It Is Siezed Or We Are Missing Something?

Torsion bars dont need time to settle. Theyre virtually immediately at their 'settled' height. Just front springs that take time.

There are a few good ways to sort out the rear torsion bars.

Im guessing you've already removed the torx bolts in each end of both torsion bars? and that on the side that the bar is ocming out you've also removed the off centre'd washer that stops it from moving about on its own?

If you have then you'll need to drown it a fair bit in a cleaning/lubricating agent, take your pick whether it be WD40 or something a little more hardcore.

Then if you have one use a slide hammer (you can get these from screwfix for £11.99 if you dont have one) buy a M8 bolt thats of sufficient length and use that as the attachment to the slide hammer that you'll be pulling out from, make sure that its screwed in a good length else you pulling will just kill the torsion bars inner thread.

The other method can be done using basic tools from around your garage- PM Stevenet15 about this as he's got some good working diagrams of this method.

    Hope that helps

SOUNDS LIKE WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK THEN. USED A 2lb SLIDE HAMMER BUT IT DID NOT WANT TO BUDGE. LEFT IT SOAKING IN WD40 FOR THE MOMENT
