wiring looms

  1. #1
right i wanna change the mk1 vts engine to a mk2.

i understand i have to change the loom.

but is it just the engine loom or the whole wiring of the car?

    cheers sean.
  2. #2
well you could just take engine loom and swap it on to other engine,

    there you go swapped
  3. #3
    wah?

yea i wanna put a mk2 engine in and i have to change the loom, an im wondering do i have to change any of the internal electrics.
  4. #4
take the mk1 engine loom off the mk1 engine yes??

now take the mk2 loom off the mk2 engine yes??

now put the mk1 engine loom on the mk2 engine yes??

then there u go, you mk2 engine will plug straight into your car.

obs only works if its two vtr engines or two vts lumps
  5. #5
    right mk1 engine out,

    mk2 engine in

    what loom do i use?

sorry i know your trying to help and thanks but...........im an idiot.
  6. #6
I think that the only difference between the two engines is the EGR valve on the mk2, which you don’t need so just sack that off and the mk2 engine will run fine without that on your mk1 loom.

Use mk1 loom and swap the looms over when the engines out of the car
  7. #7
its a cut and splice job im afraid, a fuckin ball ache and not worth the hassle.

Plus 3 plugs make less power.
  8. #8
actually some mk2 vts engines are single plug lol and will fit the vtr single plug loom.

Main difference is the main plug behind the headligh, infront of the gearbox.

MK1 is 21 pin and mk 2 is 19 iirc.
  9. #9
kk ten colin could i put a bottom end from a mk2 onto a mk1 head?
  10. #10
what engines are you swapping need to make it alot more clearer
  11. #11
Hmm i think so but then the 2 prong head thing myth and a few extra sensors iirc. So im not 100% sure.

You can use a mk2 engine 3 plugger in a single plug but you do need to swap the WHOLE engine and car loom over to match the 19pin plugs.
  12. #12
if you are swapping a mk1 VTS engine to a mk2 VTS engine then just use the orignal loom in car,

to save splicing looms, just use a 3 plug or single plug loom depending on what type you have
  13. #13
right main problem bottom end has gone on my vts, i can get a mk2 vts engine cheap as chips, so fort either convert it to mk2.

but as colin said it will be a ball ache, so would a bottom end from a mk2 fit to a mk1 head?
  14. #14
    ITS EASY

take out the mk1 engine, then swap the engine loom from mk1 engine to the mk2 engine, its not hard.. theres your problem solved,
    theres no difference
  15. #15
    ok this how i see it;

    mk1 busted engine out.
    keep mk1 engine loom in
    mk2 engine in
plug all sensors in etc etc.

    jobs a gooden?
  16. #16
yuuuup, its usally easier to swap looms over out of car buuuh which ever way will do

and it works deffo as im running C2 vts lump on single plug ecu using the mk1 vts loom

gazza youve been such a help.

did you have any complications when doing it?

    or any tips?

major help dude. if your local id buy
  18. #18
nope none at all its pretty much a straight swap,

only tip is remember where everything goes lol!

there is pretty much no difference between both engines, totally interchangable.

changed the gearbox on my vtr ended up with handfull of bolts lol.

haha yesss i did excalty the same on my vtr, then came too swapping it again and noticed id lost a few at the same time,

    sooo remember to use loctite
  21. #21
What was wrong with your original bottom end?

Both engines are absolutely identical as a main block/bottom end/sump.

As mentioned before its just the gay EGR valve or whatever it is thats different, its not needed atall.

Mk2 ECU setup and some minor parts are geared more towards emmisions etc which sucks donkey penis tbh.

Depending what you do with an engine or if you're modding further a single plug setup from a mk1 is easier to work with especially with the ECU.

May have been better just swapping the bottom end over and keepign everything else the same, or depending what was knackered with the old bottom end changing the buggered parts only to save some time and £

Sorry the few pints ive had is causing me to waffle a bit

using a c2 vts lump, you need to drill and tap the top holes to use saxo inlet, and also need to swap the sump to a vts item so you can use saxo manifold
  24. #24
damn not having an edit button..

also i used the cambet set up of a vts lump which is a straight swap, as the c2 cams are a bit mild and saxo cams are apprently abit more lairy but i beg to differ in driving it
