strange noise

   hey up chaps need some advice, my cousin has a mk2 vts and it has started making a funny noise but only at certain revs. it sounds like a blowing or tapping sound and only does it when you are coming down between 4k-2k revs. when you put your foot back on the accelorator at goes away and also when you put your foot on the clutch it goes, its just when you let the engine brake between those revs. ogh and its really loud as well, loud enough that you can hear it when the radio is on. any ideas?

   This be my vts that blacksax1 is chattin bout, it's now more of a whine than a tappin. n it now happens when i accelerate as well as let of the accelerator. it only happens up to about 4k revs but then the exhaust drowns out the sound. various people ive spoken to say it could be thrust bearing but as they cant hear it on tick over, they dont suggest that. also got a mention to do wit passenger driveshaft. but after jacking that up n playing around with that, it all seems normal. so my only other option is gearbox. anyone got any ideas or had this sorta problem before?

   hiya buddy. I asked the same question about 1 month ago and people asked me to record the sound. I coudlnt be bothered and took it to a garage.
   
   Low and behold my gear box was on its way out. 1st & 2nd gear were due to go any time so i took it in and they repaired my gearbox.
   
   Not got it back yet, but with a new clutch and gear box fixed and all labour... came to £450 the quote did. Lets hope they stick by it.
