VTR bottom with VTS top?

  1. #1
Iv just been offered a standard VTS head, if it would fit i can fit it. But is there any point? i.e. gearbox, strength of bottom end ect.

Thanks for all the help in advance

even though both are classed as 1.6 the blocks actually differ in cc size. not sure whether the bore/stroke or the head is down to the difference but as far as im aware the blocks are different and as a result you cant simply lob the 16v head on to a VTR block

you can fit a vts head to a vtr bottom end but its alot of work and not cost effective, the vtr pistons have no valve cut outs so you would have to macheine the vtr pistons or use a thicker headgasket but that would lower the compression and defeat the object of getting more performance from the head change. The bottom end timing pulleys off the vts are also needed as there different to the vtr so the vtr bottom end would need tapping for these. to summerise u should just get a complate 16v engine and drop that in there as its less hastle to do and know that its set up completly right

i dont think you know what your talking about,

the pistons are the same bar cut outs and gudgen pin,
    rods are the same length,
crank is excalty the same, now tell me how the bottom ends differ in cc's??

    excalty they dont

damn pressing submit beforwe i finished..

    carrying on from above,

its the head if there is any difference,

but ive seen 16v heads on 1.4 blocks soo dont see why it cnt be done,

blocks are same casting minus the fact the extra tensioner isnt fitted/drilled and tapped on the vtr block, soo all you have to do is drill and tap it and fit the tensioner.

couldnt tell you about weather you need cut outs or not
