Heat wrapping manifold, really worth it?

   Hey
   
   I've got a Raceland manifold sitting here waiting to be fitted, but I'm debating whether to heat wrap it or not.
   
   I've read in some places on here that it's pointless and doesn't do anything but look good.
   
   But I've also read that it keeps the engine bay alot cooler and also helps exhaust gases escape quicker.
   
   Opinions?
   
   If I was the heat wrap it, is this the right stuff? Right size etc..

   Heatwrappings for girls tbh. If you want it to look better paint it black or white.

   Yes, it does keep engine bay temperatures down, so that's a plus. It's also true that gasses can travel with less restriction when they are hotter, so there's another plus.

   will get round to heat wrapping mine at some point, just not had the chance, haha.

   heat wrap and get some bonnet raisers to lift the back edge of the bonnet up, will help out even more.

   I would wrap it as said its keeps engine bay temps down and lets exhaust fumes get hotter and exit the engine quicker.You will need around 70 meters of 1 inch of heat wrap to wrap the raceland.

   Could crack which is a negative, no real performance gain that I have ever seen from heatwrapping either.

    Would 50 ft of 2 inch be enough? I think that's what alot of people have used. Like the stuff in the eBay link.

    50 ft of 2'' will be enough mate. Thats what i used to wrap my raceland and had a tiny bit spare at the end!

    yeh ok so when your manifolds glowing and it melts everything in your engine bay thats a good thing?

    Notr melted anything in my engine bay and never heard of one melting anything. My engine bay doesnt get that hot either, never hot enough so you can feel it when touching the bonnet etc. Also to make it glow you would have to be runnning at high revs for a long time. Dunno bout you but I dont drive round at 6k.

    Ok ordered the stuff of eBay. Come with 8 ties aswell which should be enough.

    well affter a hard lap round the nurburing my whole manifold was glowing, and if it wasnt wrapped it would of been putting immense heat on the altenator
    
    but thats due to the raceland being made of tin foil

    sam, how long did it take you to wrap it? i know the longer the better really.

    not long but mines only wrapped about halfway down but is enough to keep engine bay temps down abit!
    couldnt be bothered to wait for more wrap to turn up lol just wanted it fitted!

    some say it helps.... others say it means heat is retained in the head which can lead to warping etc... i had my vtr wrapped and didnt notice much diff tbh

    whats the chances of the heatwrap stuff actually catching fire? like itll only withstand a certain temp until in ignites wont it? im guessing the ignition temp is like 200 *C or something?

    heatwrapping helps increase the gas speed which you want on the exhaust side of the head.
