35mm springs ok?

  1. #1
Ive had a look through the forum but couldn't find anything about this, correct me if im wrong as its annoying posting stuff already mentioned!

    I own a 1.4i 2000 furio.

Firstly, GMAX claim that their lowering springs can be fitted to standard dampers with no problems up to 40mm, it is then you should replace the dampers. Is this really the case? They sell 35mm ones, so basically, will they work ok with standard dampers? or is it really not worth getting them unless you buy the dampers too?

Also, most shops say if you buy the GMAX springs or kit, you may need a modified track rod (code STR) if you have power steering whats all this about??

    Cheers

Will be ok with 35mm springs and original dampers. Obviously be better if you buy a complete suspension kit like koni or bilstein etc, but that costs.

As for the track rod, on mk2 saxos (like yours), when you lower the car, the track rod arm will rub against the power steering pipe leading to a nice hole forming in the pipe and power steering fluid pissing all over your new drive.....
Don't know anything about modified arms, but most people (myself included) simply bend the pipe out of the way or get a pre-bent pipe (think ABP sell them).

Does that happen with any amount of lowering or just lower than a certain drop?

Well, mines down 40mm and did it so i suppose any lowering will do it.

cheers for the info. What do you mean by ok? Will it eventually screw up my standard dampers if i get them or just make the ride slightly worse (if so how?)?

I think that pre bent arm is what the modified arm is, il have to look into it, where can i find it on the car?

It won't be as good as a full kit. If you had uprated dampers as well then the handling will be superior and you know you have the quality. Expect the dampers will eventually go, but they probably will anyway with standard suspension.

As for the arm, fuck knows! I'm no mechanic, but if you follow the power steering pipe (the large pipe, about 20mm diameter) from the reservoir at the front of the engine bay back to the bulk head of the car then left behind the engine you can see where it goes. Peer down past the throttle body and suspension strut.

    Please read this following statement

If you buy G-Max shocks, you will be disapointed. These products have a serious defect and they have a huge come back rate for most companies. This is because they are common to leaking. Its very annoying and they suffer from very poor build quality.

We actually stopped supplying these because of this issue.

When buying shocks i would stick with:

    Eibach
    bilstein
    Avo
    Spax
    Koni
    Apex

Those we feel provide quality shocks and springs accross the board.

Something like the full Avo package is very tidy and Spax have just been doing some great deals.

But please avoid the G-Max kit

If you want information or prices on ANY kits or just want information about what kits are best, what drops fit with diffferent size wheels then just drop me a direct email:

    Thank you.
