Whistling Gear Box ?!?!?

   Now.... im not the most educated of peeps when it comes to engines, gear box's or even cars !!! but my car has recently been making a loud wizzing, or whistling noise..... you can realy hear it as you change down gear.... is it something to be worried about ?!!? Any post would be a big help.. thanks

   does sound like the box is on its way out........but some people said it cant be the clutch release bearings but when i had this problem on my old VTR i set my mind on that it was the release bearings...............so i got it checked out at a garage free of charge and they said it was the box so i had to replace that and the clutch cos i left it so long the box or clutch basicly exploded

   does it make a noise when driving all the time?
   
   if so does it stop when you put your foot on the clutch?
   
   If yes to the above, then i think its the bearings in the box

   my car makes a tiny whistle in 3rd n thats bout itm i kno ma car is fine thow cus ma mate has a vtr with 29k on it and it dus the same thing.
