Window Tinting???

  1. #1
    Hey Everyone..

Starting to make alot of threads in this section lol

Window tinting? Do i use the film tht you can get, or get proper tints?

if you got the film stuff? wouldnt it peel?

anyone recommend any websites or whatever?

    Cheers

what do you mean by the proper tints?

professionals use the film, they just do it properly.

and no it shouldnt peel if they are done properly and you take care of them.

i.e. dont open the windows until 1 week after they are done so that they have a chance to bond properly. you will also need to change the strips along the window so that they dont get scratched (there is a guide on here how to do that) and you need to clean them with soapy water. then they should be fine.

    hope this helps a bit

If you take out the windows and take your time they can look good with just window tiniting film from halfrauds. Might as well give it a go for £15, rather than spending hundreds on getting it done professionally, and even if it looks crap, just rip it off and try again, or just take it somewhere proper

If you have the money get it do professionally but

or if you have the time to do it , DIY it .

IMO don't tint your windows as to me they don't look that good and the standard saxo windows are tinted already .

But that is up to you .

O' and if you do it yourself take out the rear side windows then doing that you can do it alot easier .

if you get it done dont get the back done in limo black looks stupid get it a few shades darker than the front !!!

mine the quarter windows are the darkest i have on my car

    the wifes (jul2vtr)

hope this helps to make up your mind !!!!

i would get it done professionally tbh
it just looks a mess when ppl do it there selves
  7. #7
Get a pro to do it as it is hard to do it yourself properly.
  8. #8
i not to keen on tinted windows myself, get a professional to do it.
  9. #9
when i said proper tints, i ment professionals doing it....sorry lol

i reckon it would look good with the smoked theme that i am going to be going with

Saw a Seicento Sporting a while back, with DIY tints. I could tell because it was madly creased and not put on entirely straight, plus I could tell where the idiot had taken it off to re-align it. Laughing stock on wheels to be brutally honest. I have the pre-cut film from my previous Ford still, didn't dare try to put it on. After seeing that DIY mess theres no way I'm even going to consider it. Better get it done professionally. Expensive yes, but at least other motorists won't laugh at you.

I've just bought a DIY kit off ebay :d wish me luck. I'll get pictures once i've done it and that Then you'll see the differences of a idiot DIY job and a professional job.

    Just make sure...

    - You have it done properly/professionally.
    - You buy some Clio weatherseals/strips for the front side windows.
    - You prepare to face the consequences if and when you get caught.

tints arent illegal mate, 70% of light have to pass though it, or something like that, if the back 2 are darker than the 2 driver and passenger windows, its fine
  21. #21
Front ones are illegal... Hence why saxos have automatic windows
  22. #22
thats why i want to do the backones lol
  23. #23
plod never pulled me up on my front tints, alot of standard cars have illegal tints out of the factory vauxhall omega standard windows are illegal only let 69% in hence illegal and the plod use them.

dipping them is the unprofessional way to do it. it comes off in no time at all starts flaking. using the film is the pro way my mate runs his own tinting firm

my mate had his dipped over 3 yrs ago and they still look mint

he looks after his car so that will obviously help but he got them done professionally by a friend who works for a tinting company and they dipped them . looks smart.

I Agree with the others, tints are a big no no for me for several reasons, 1st being if you are going to do it yourself you got to it properly otherwise it will look sh*t, 2nd getting it done professionally is a waste of your hard earned cash and the saxo's already look the bees.

Ditch the idea mate and spend it on something more worthwile

Just use the film m8..but get it done professionally!!

get it done professional, they will look better mine were meant to get done months ago, but ive changed my mind at the moment
  31. #31
Dont go to mad on the front tints, had dark smoke on the front and limo black on the back of my old westcoast, got pulled, think it wa 27% of light going through the window and a lovely 30 quid fine!

Anyone any suggestions on how to remove the film from a window? The rear window of my saxo is tinted and i want it back to standard, but the film doesn't peel off, it sort of chips off. Must be a way to do it quickly??

    Thanks

    Matt

You're right... tints are not illegal. I didn't say they were!?! I said prepare to face the consequences if and when you/others get caught. People would know I'm talking about tints on the front side windows.

Many cars come with tinted glass as factory standard. This is basically the legal limit on those side windows. Any aftermarket film will be considered illegal.

You said that if the back two are darker than the front two, then it's fine? So if the back two are lighter than the front two, does that mean they're not fine/illegal!?! Hmmm.

I love the topic of tinted windows

get it done by a pro mate looks so much better
