costs of running a cammed vts...

  1. #1
ok guys, im getting a vts in january and was wondering what sort of fuel costs shud i be expecting, i get roughly 80miles to £10 in das furio and i know the vts isnt much less if ya drive sensibly, but i was wondering how much difference fuel wise a cammed vts would be compared to a normal vts with same mods minus cams

the vts will have a enclosed filter and cat back system(maybe decat).

    cheers..

mine was actually better after gettin cams and a remap. get about 280miles from a full tank now. use to get around 240-250
  3. #3
is a tank £42? never actually tanked my car lol!

and how much was ya ported and polished head? any gains? i want to do all the engine mods whilst its apart getting cams done..

u got a printout of ya power? bhp etc...

if i drove my vts with a bit of stick and some sensible driving i would get 75miles to £10 of fuel, in my coupe turbo i am lucky to get 55miles to £10 if driving sensibly

na it had carbon fibre inclosed induction, polished and ported cylinder head, slightly lower C/R, 4-2-1 manifold & full exhaust system, never went for cams in the end as i sold it due to needing a bigger car so bought a astra coupe turbo instead

why did you lower your CR? thats worse for power on and NA car.

i got about 220 miles to a tank. didnt matter how i drove.

just got 72 miles to a tenner, good 15 spirited drive then grandad it
  11. #11

If you polish and port your head you will get a little extra power and it will probably run better by doing that. Its all about getting the air in as smooth and as past as possible aswell as the gasses back out again. Thats a 4 into 1 manifold is a good idea

a ported and polised head is suppose to go well with cams, worth getting it done wit the cams if you can afford to

not being funny boys, but isnt every Saxo designed to run on 95 RON?
  23. #23
Maybe so, But i'm sure Super has extra additives that clean injectors etc.

tesco value coke or coca cola?
  25. #25
when you have it mapped on optimax then it runs best on that. (for me anyway lol)

Some probably have them mapped to run on higher octanes I'm guessing?
  27. #27
would u get more power from getting it mapped on 97ron rather than 95? if so shouldnt everyone get a map on 97 and run it on 95 if they want?
  28. #28
you will get higher power figures yes. but if you want to maintain those power figures then you will need to keep running it on the high octaine fuel.

i had mine mapped on 97/98ron fuel but with the petrol prices i cant afford to run it on that so just run 95ron. it wont hurt anything but power will be slightly down on what it is with 97ron
  29. #29
you shouldnt moan about driving a cammed up vts,you shoud try running my 24v 6 cylinder 325 bmw

thats what i wanted to hear

and 55miles to £10 is shocking lol for a 1.6 anyways, roughly 22mpg
  31. #31
that is shocking! you should see 75ish to a tenna.
  32. #32
Used to think the GTi was shite on petrol. But I did 3 tests and on average
roughly £10 got me 80miles on motorway/town and a bit of B Road blasting..
