    Is this any good?

    Whats the silver one that I have seen that covers the whole top of the engine?

    Better and proven to be good for performance.

    Truth be know there is no one best induction kit for not only the saxo but any car, open filters suffer from heat soak as they are open, totally enclosed filters suffer as they are only feed from a direct cold air feed so the 'best' in relation to peformance and price is a scoop as it offers the best of the two but is still not 'the best' but is better than standard.

    There is a case for every filter from panel to carbon fibre enclosed filter with both pro's and con's

    But like mentioned Kam-Racing can give you good advice and sell you open, enclosed and scoop filters depending on what you deside to go with

    A guy on here with a VTR had a rolling road sesh, one run he had a K&N open cone, the other a BMC enclosed. The BMC gave him 0.2 more BHP or something stupid. So not worth the money tbh

    I would say that, its just on a rolling road totally enclosed filters suffer cos they're only feed of air is through a direct cold air feed which when the car is on a rolling road dosent have the same force of air entering the system like it would say at 50mph or above, you have only got to stick your hand out the window at 30mp or 40mph+ and you acn feel the force of the air pushing at your hand, now direct that in a funnel and into a enclosed conatiner where you filter element is.

    The only was to compare the two (open and enclosed) is on the open road.

    Budget, looks and personal taste also should come into the buying choice

    Fair point. I can see they are the better filter, but for the money i dont think theyre worth it generally, imo.

    And a lot of people on here have just started being sheep saying 'open filters are shit, enclosed ones are the way forward' for some kid with a 1.1 who makes 90 quid a week stacking shelves and is never gonna take it round Donnington

    I do agree 100% about sheep on here, mention Magnex or BMC and people will go 'Barrrr Barrrr'.

    I bought a Green enclosed and had some performance issue's with it at low speeds under hard acceleration so I bought a Open filter with a Heat Shield and cold air feed only £60 off eBay new and I was well impressed, the only reason I went back to the scoop was I found the pick up while moving was better with the scoop than the open.

    For noise you cant beat a open cotton filter close to the throtle body for extra noise

    Well if you are going to buy one, stick with the BMC or the green enclosed, better for performance if you can call 0.2BHP performance lol, but if you are going for noise get an open!

    on the road the open filter will be sucking on contaminated air from the engine bay. It'll be hot from the radiator.. or suck in air thats passed over the engine block.

    this may or may not be realised on a RR as they tend to have bonnets open etc which would skew the results.

    There is good reason why the top competition cars will duct in the air using enclosed kits.. either custom or premade

    couldnt of put it better. dont spend big money on induction kits mate because they have been proven to not make hardly any difference on the VTR what so ever. just go for a K&N flat panel replacement. Just as good for the VTR but wont break the bank.

    Hi guys, thanks for all the input.

    In the end I went with the Kam Racing "Raceland with Green replacement air filter".
    Now I just hope it's easy to fit as this will be the first mod on my VTR I have done myself.

    big time thread hi jack but it is related! on ebay there are the raceland scoops with the standard filter not the green replacement for a good price. i've already got the K&N filter, so if i bought the raceland scoop, would the K&N filter be an easy replacement for the standard raceland one?

    The cone filter on the raceland + green is actually quite compact although it is bigger than the standard raceland one that you would usually get..

    From what i've seen of K&N conal filters they are quite wide and chunky - and seeing the size of the raceland scoop on my car i doubt a k&n cone filter would go under...

    From memory the Green filter you get as an upgrade to the Raceland is a couple of cm's bigger each side than the pipe itself... and it fits pretty snugly into the scoop...

    has anyone had any experience with the pipercross enclosed system that is universal. my mate payed about £100 for his and put it on his MG. he's sold the MG and said i can have the system for free (score). i was thinking of swapping it for my K&N open system. does anyone have any experience with these pipercross systems? cheers.

    the Green filters that we use to fit inside the raceland units have a 15degree angle and a 65mm neck.

    As long as the K&N was similar it should fit
