side exit exhausts.

  1. #1
would there be any gains or losses?

    basically.
  2. #2
wouldnt be much of a gain, the main loss would be how much it would cost you. And i think there are some pretty toight regulations on side exits exhuast systems
  3. #3
    what kinda regs?

i expect it would have to be a custom job.
  4. #4
It might just be downright illigal actually
  5. #5
    but...

    viper sert10 has it,
slr (the team hamilton drives for that i cant spell) has it

plus the cituing saxo turbo vtr had it.
  6. #6
Yeah theyre not normal cars though. i may be wrong mate, im sure theres some gay regs on them though. Got a feeling KamRacing knows a bit about this
  7. #7
    my saxos not normal either

    i own it...
  8. #8
This guy I met up with on SSC at this meet, made his own side exit exhaust. Brad was his name
  9. #9
In my opinion they look terrible your cars mint as it is mate
  10. #10
Youd def have to do something smarted than just cut a hole in the sideskirt to make it look sexy.

I quite like the idea of a small double exhuast coming out of the boot, think im alone there though.
  11. #11
i was thinking that, like gran turismo race car.
  12. #12
Why don't you go totally crazy and make an exhaust which will come out of the roof
  13. #13
tbh i am thinking of relocating the filler cap to the roof
  14. #14
as long as its not noisy and its all secure with no leaks or blowing then having a side exit is fine on a MOT and will pass
  15. #15
Strictly speaking your NOT allowed to have the exhaust exit in front of the driver. I guess its so you don’t gas your self. Though its one of those thing you do tend to get away with. However there is a big IF on your insurance. As in theory any car that is not 100% road legal your not strictly insured. I don’t think you will be picked up unless your car is spitting flames. As other drivers will get pissed off.

As for gains in power you will get absolutely nothing! You will have trouble routing it as well. Stick your head under the car and try and see where you would rout the thing. If your thinking of having a front bumper job think about where your going to put your silencers and CAT. Even if you don’t have a real CAT you need a face one as the police will pull you with a car that is so modified.
  16. #16
PS, incidentally your not allowed to route the exhaust through the passenger compartment it self
  17. #17
i have a side exit exhast on my vtr and i felt gains after putting it on, that was the only mod when i 1st put it on and it felt pretty quicker, but it is a bit noisey, looked at the ci turbo'd one and mine comes out at nearly the same place i think,

i felt some gains in mine, for sure. when mine gets to about 3500revs there is a nice power gain there from this exhaust.

im also sure that webby will agree to this aswel.

also its very easy to fit because you have longer hangers so it just fits where your normal one goes. but it sits pretty low aswel. i love mine and ill swear bye it from

    Side exhaust - 1
    Normal Standard one - 0

i think they look quite good if done proply, but twin exhausts ftw
  20. #20
is the side exhaust on the turbo'd one not a screamer pipe??
  21. #21
screamer pipes the ones that use butterfly valves?

whats the law on those things?
  22. #22
i thought the less distance the gasses have to travel to escape the better

thus having a side exit exhaust would improve performance... if it was done properly anyway?

  26. #26

yeh that was my 1st idea but then u gotta think off the price lol, but would look the nuts,

i just tryed taking photos off mine but it was to dark, so i will defo get one tomoz after ive give it a clean sorry.
  29. #29
all you would really need, is a twin box from the manifold / downpipe, so 2 pipes can come out, then try n route em to just behind the doors comin outa the skirts, hanging may be a problem though
  30. #30
couldn't see why it coming out the side would be illegal some standard cars/van do like citroen relay mini bus etc
  31. #31
it isnt illegal, just certain regs on them, like not mounting them infront of the driver and whatnot
  32. #32
there was one for sale on here from somebody and on ebay, it was a custom powerflow one, looked good was tempted, as its different dosnt make you look to chavvy having a massive exhaust coming out the back. my rear bumper has the exhaust hole filled in so wud be perfect
