window wiper relay!

   right, when its raining i push my stick to turn on the wipers on setting 1, this makes a clickin noise coming from a 'relay' at the other end of my dash(passenger side), but if i put the wipers on setting 2(faster) it goes all messed up and the wipers stop and start as they please, and with every stroke i get a loud clicking from behind the dash, ive been told its the relay but i dont know what it is, where it is, and how to sort it..
   
   need help on fixing the problem as winter is coming and cba having self-deciding wipers that choose when to work!

   u have fuse box in car, have look in manual etc id look at myne but upstairs

   are the relays in the fusebox?, the noise is coming from behind the glove compartment...
   
   i read how relays work now so i know roughly how it works..

   Did you find out what the problem was my vtr is doing the same thing?.

   the relay on my vtr is located above the fuses. on the left hand side of the dash, mine is in the top right corner and is blue, cant say this will be definate for you as depends on the make and the age and if the relays been replaced before, i would just repace the relay, shouldnt cost much, go a scrap yard for example, or take it to an auto electrical shop, you will be able to tell which one it is by puting your wipers on stage 1 and feel the relay, as the relay operates( click) you should be able to feel it click, this is the relay coming in or out. in stage one the relay clicks and the wipers start the relay clicks again as the wiper stops, the wiper does nothing a puase break then the proccess starts again

   on the second stage the wipers are on all the time the relay comes in and stays in untill there turned off or turned to another stage

   Just for anyone who is interested, the Citroen part number for the windscreen wiper relay is 6555EL. If you go to www.Eurocarparts.co.uk the relay is available for £12 including postage(in the UK). Search Eurocarparts ... their own part number for this item is 450440080 on 3 day delivery. Good service and not to hard on the wallet.

    holy thread bump!
    
    it was the wiper motor/arm in the end if I remember correctly, I replaced this and it was sorted straight away
    
    was unrelated to the relay!
