it isnt an abused car so shouldnt be anything major wrong with the engine. Its just been services aswell but havent changed the plugs yet. It sounds like there is a K & N on the car when I take off even though it hasnt got one it sounds like there is power in their somewhere Powerless

Hello, I have a 1.6 VTR phase II with 38000 miles on the clock, it doesnt appear to have the power a 1.6 VTR should have, the take off is very good and up to 60 fairly quick but going above 70 is not easy and doesnt appear to have that ability as the car doesnt feel too safe at that speed. Just wondering does any other VTR'ers
have the same problem? I have been in a 1.0ltr that can go 90 no problem and my 1.6 wont do the same

#2Well changing the plugs would be a good start.
You say it sounds like it has a k&n?? If you have induction roar on a factory induction system it could indicate an air leak, but i wouldnt have thought it would make it that much slower!
My VTR will accelerate right up 100-110mph with no problems!
At 80mph you can put your foot down and it just pulls, right up to the rev limiter! Lol -
#3Yeah mate i will change the plugs first, yeah it sounds like there is a K & N on it, but its just the ordinary filter on the car, I always am first at the traffic lights to take off, it has good power that way. The car had previous light frontal damage, perhaps the suspension had been hit during that crash and thats why it doesnt feel safe to go any faster at high speed. could that be the problem?

#4i`d check your exhaust aswell all the way from manifold, centre section and back box... make sure its not blowing... when i had a crack in my 106 quicksilvers front pipe it did slow it down quite a bit

#6Get your engine checked lad, as well as your zorst, I've driven the R many times and for a 1.6 8v, I'd say they are nicely brisk, yours shouldn't be behaving like that. Fair play they do drop off a bit above 70, but still they should get to three figures without any real strain and continue to pull to around 115-120mph if the engine is working properly.

#7It could well be a blowout in the front exhaust, its just passed the emissions on the Car test though, would that still pass if there happened to be a blow out in the front manifold? The engine probably just needs a good tuning.

#8im not sure mate it depends if they checked the car properly but if it was leaking exhaust gasses then it shouldnt pass... but i dont think they can tell just from the emissions test

#11Saxo speedo's are out. Fact.

#12yeah definatly get it checked out. mine pulls fine at above 80 and if it doesn't feel safe at that speed get it checked asap i've been 115 and it still feels pretty stable.
