306/Xsara/Xantia etc etc 1.8 16v engine?

   I was just wondering about the 1.8 16v engines that are in Xsara VTR's/306 Meridians etc. What are they? TU based, XU based? How much power do they generate? I'm guessing there isn't much tuning bits available for them.
   
   Just general information about them would be great. Thanks

   to much of a hassle to fit because all the mounts are different

   they are XU engines. The head on the standard engine is very restrictive. We've built a 1.8 XU / Gti Hybrid engine that should push out about 170bhp on TBs though so good gains are possible. With an expensive amount of work 200bhp+ is available
   Not sure if we'll fit it now though lol .. may be getting rid to build a maxi polo

   I wasn't really wanting to fit one I was just interested in what they are, seems to be an overlooked engine. So they benefit from head work?

   Is it true that a GTI-6 Inlet manifold and exhaust manifold will fit the 1.8 head? I love my Suxo but am currently being tempted by a Xsara VTR.

   The GTI-6 head fits I believe. Also I think the rest of the 1.8 engine is lighter than the 2.0 litre ones.

    I love the Phase 1's not so sure bout the Phase 2's. Ahhh well I'll keep this all in mind.
