Bonnet Release Catch?

  1. #1
I'm wanting to make my own bad boy bonnet, but just wondered if anyone already had one, and if they could tell me where the bonnet release catch is, and how it has been repositioned?

I know people have just extended theirs.. not to sure how though as have not yet done mine.

had the same prob with my dimma grill, no option but to squeeze your hand up and under the bonnet when catch has been released!

problem sorted people i have done my own dimma grill but didnt like the fact of having to cut a slot out of my mesh so i can release teh bonnet catch so i took it off, 2 mins it takes juts push pin out tht goes through it and take it off, ur bonnet still shuts and locks but wen u pull the leaver in your car all you have to then do is walk to ya bonnet and lfit it straight up, not having to worry about the catch nomore. dimma grills luk laods better aswell all meshed. hope this helps ppl

Removing the catch is NOT a good idea.. Id put it back on and do the mesh cutting...
Im sure you wouldn't like you bonnet fly open at 70mph on the motorway would you...

yeah does sound a bit stupid!im sure its there 4 a reason!!!

well ya boot dusnt have a catch like the bonnet on it and does that fly open at 70mph on the motorway, no. it will not fly open, if they were to fly open then they would fly open even if there was a catch on them.
  10. #10
    no they wouldn't

think about it mate...your bonnet is taking all friction and force of the wind at 70mph so takes alot more stress. the boot is kept closed easily by the air travelling down from the roof creating a force of wind against the boot opening thats why it is safe.

the 2nd catch is on the bonnet incase the first fails! a bonnet has alot more stress on the catches

and i can think of three seperate cases (actually it maybe four) of bonnets coming up and smashing the windscreen and damaging the roof, in fact its little over a month since the last such event

be my guest and try it then mate.
As Scott said .. 3 or 4 cases of this happening (that we have heard of) is enough to prove its not a good idea!

wouldnt the obvious choice be to extend the bonnet catch so it can just be reached form under the lip of the bonnet once it has been popped open from inside?

Either that or Fab a new one out of aluminium or steel, how hard can it be ?
  14. #14
As you say GMan, it would probably be easiest to just either make a new one or just extend the original!
All I need now is a MK2 bonnet!!

    Thanks for the input!

god almighty no!!! DON'T remove the catch, whatever you do, i had my mk2 bonnet smoothed and removed the catch...and suffered the consequences

i now have a fiberglass bad boy with bonnet pins, its alot less hassle for £220!!
