Lowering Myself?

  1. #1
Hope somebody can help. I've read through the Max Power Citroen Saxo guide, and in order to lower it, they say I need specialist tools for the front, and a 'dummy' damper for the rear, is this so?
Or is it easier to let someone else do this part?
  2. #2
unles you have spring clamps the theres no point even attempting it yourself mate.
  3. #3
    Yeah I've got spring clamps
  4. #4
plus the torsion bar should only be touched by sum1 who no's what they r doing!
  5. #5
Fair enough mate, I'll get the work done at a workshop, that way it will be easier.
  6. #6
possibly be able to do the torsion bar yourself, if it isn't to rusted in LOL
  7. #7
Well it's a 2001. I am actually a trainee mechanic, but I haven't ever worked on a torsion bar before.
  8. #8
if the torsion bar isnt rusted then its easier to do than the front springs. No need for someone who knows what they are doing really not a lot to it
  9. #9
and theres a better how to guide for premium members on here.
Alot better than the Max Power one!
  10. #10
i was always told that the torsion bar is the hardest thing to do as it can go quite wrong if not done right!maybe im wrong!
  11. #11
it can go very wrong if not done right, but so can everything
  12. #12
    very true!

it isn't that difficult as ive done mine down my friends workshop with his help but aslong as you can get the pins out its pretty straight forward you can always heat them up but watch out because you got brake lines etc in that area!
  13. #13
So is it pretty straight forward then?
  14. #14
Do the Premium How-to-Guides explain a lot and do they go into great detail, or don't they help a lot?
  15. #15
well im going to be doing mine soon when my avo springs arrive, but then again depends on when the alloys come to

premium guides are detailed and easy to follow.
as are all the other guides aswell actually!..
  17. #17
Well I'll become a Premium member if its worth it then
  18. #18
10 smackers = a pair of lovely stickers ;-) sweet living and some hardcore access to the guides ;-)
  19. #19
I've just been through the Premium How-To-Guides, and there are no descriptions, explaining which the torsion bar should be turned etc.?
  20. #20
    this could help www.badgermotorsport.co.uk/
  21. #21
Very helpful mate, thanks for the link.
  22. #22
thatys because it doesnt matter which way you turn the torsion bar
  23. #23
So you just keeping turing it a spline at a time, until it fits back in?
  24. #24
    thats the chap
  25. #25
providing u have the suspension arm set at the disired height?
  26. #26
Yeah I've read through that Badger Motorsport page, and seems quite straight forward. Is it worth replacing the seals when putting everything back?
  27. #27
nah i wouldnt and didnt bother, no real need to remove the anti roll bar either, just lever the end plates up or down out of the way
  28. #28
Sorted mate, thanks for the great advice. What sort of suspension have you got on your ride Scott? How much did you pay for it? Which is the best one to go for, cos' really I'm after height adjustable suspension, but I'm only looking to spend around £200 if I can!
  29. #29
no chance of height adjustable for 200 unfortunately mate. Im on gmc 50mm springs and bilstein shocks.

Have a chat with GSMotorsport and see what he can sort you with now your a premium member your privvy to some discount
  30. #30
How much did that set you back?
  31. #31
i'm going for eibach springs and bilstein shocks on mine, got the springs already, might have to talk to Gareth about the shocks....and then find time to fit all.
  32. #32
it was 150 for the springs to be fitted and torsion abr to be lowered, then i picked up the shocks second hand and fitted them myself
  33. #33
So can you mix and match shocks and springs then?

Also whats the best height to lower too? I'm gonna be riding on VTS alloys, and want my Saxo to just sit above my rims, so that it looks the tits, but whats the average drop that normally has to be done?
  34. #34
Go 40mm .. Will look sweet on VTS rims.
And handling will still be great.
  35. #35
id say go another 10mm but its ur choice!if u jus want it to look nice go 60mm plus!but then things start to wear out eg driveshafts as they sit at awkward angle!
  36. #36
Are Apex Suspension kits any good, cos' I've seen them advertised for £180? Otherwise what are the best makes to go for?
  37. #37
    Apex are good..
As Scott said, Gaz (GSMotorsport) offers good deals on apex kits to sax-p members..
    Give him a PM.
  38. #38
I've just spoken to GSMotorsport, and they reckon they can do me a fixed Apex suspension kit for £210, where as I've seen them cheaper elsewhere!
  39. #39
well tell him that he may match it
  40. #40
I've spoken to GSMotorsport, and they've said that they will price match it. They really are helpful, and really seem to know what they are talking about.
    Where abouts are they based?
Has anybody used them before? If so what did you think? Were they quick with delivery?
  41. #41

    Gaz is based in Nottingham!
Top guy.. Im sure most saxos owners have or will deal with him atleast once within their time of owning a saxo!
    Very recommended fella
  42. #42
So he well worth going with then?
  43. #43
    Absolutely..

He's a Sax-p partner.. very trusted and knowledgable guy.
  44. #44
Sorted, I'm gonna be ringing him tomorrow to confirm the order, and then I can get them fitted ASAP. A company near to me has said that they will sort out all of my Torsion Bar for about £100. So I'm gonna get them to do that, and then I'll just swap the front dampers round. SORTED!!!!!
  45. #45
I've got my Suspension Kit, and my alloys. So now I'm gonna book my car in with a company near to me (personally recommended), and they are gonna do all the work (torsion bar and front dampers) for about £180. The end of next week when it is all done, I'll have to post some pics to show the finnished product!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice!
  46. #46
no probs mate.. Take before and after pics aswell please mate.
