(vts) what rpm do you change

  1. #1
Just a quick little one for you guys. what do you change gear at when racing down the 1/4 mile strip?
  2. #2
    7700 with ze cams
  3. #3
    bit less than max
  4. #4
1000 less thn maxium thn u get optimum gear changes
  5. #5
what do u mean? so what should i change at?
  6. #6
depending on mods the peak power of a vts is approx 6600-6800 so changing later than this is pointless unless on track and need to drag the gear out to save changing on a bend.
  7. #7
    o right ok cool :d
  8. #8
    before the torque falls rapidly

I will be revving to this tommorow lol.

All the way to the redline (my ecu had a raised rev limit of 7500) on the strip mate!
  14. #14
8600 this year on the strip for me
  15. #15
7800 with the 708's never ran a standard vts, but i always used to take it near to redline, to keep the engine reving
  16. #16
im running 708's. in 1st i rev it to just under 7800 because of the long 2nd gear and then its about 7250 for all the rest. that will soon change though as i have an S1 rallye box im fitting today

    I agree...

Change at maximum BHP to drop you back into max torque. Even with 708s, it's pointless going past 7200 really, unless you have them set up incorrectly, lol.

a good driver doesnt need to be told what rpm to change at. you can feel how much the car is putting you in your seat. ideally you want to keep it in the power band so you rev it till you feel the car power dip. i.e. when you feel it start to shove you in the back less you change!
  19. #19
its not how you stand by your car its how you race your car, you better learn that!
  20. #20
on a serious note you can feel it when it runs out of steam i change around 6500 - 6800
  21. #21
    about 6,6k
  22. #22
    Day to day ~ 3k
Ragging it ~ 6.5k, drops nicely back into the power band, bit of second gear wheelspin etc.
  23. #23
o right ok then. i will give that a try. by the way i dont rag it everywhere just wanted to know what everyone changes at. i hopefully will be at santa pod next year wiht some nice 708's in it

Is anybody going to and 1/4 mile strips in the next few months? i wouldnt mind meeting a few of you
  24. #24
Of course i live at the pod
  25. #25
so when are u goin up next vtr130? and what is your car spec by the way lol
