MK1 Fiesta...nothing to do with saxos

  1. #1
    Guys

currently own a brown mk1 fiesta 82 plate

as well as my sax. It was my first ever car and simply great fun. Lots of welding needed but basically i wanna know what you think about putting a newer engine in there. No idea what or how or where at this stage but just wondered.

got 8 months to do it but want it back on the road and driveable.

Strip it to the bones, get rid of any rust, seam weld the whole engine bay, chuck a 2.0 zetec silver top from a mk2 mondeo!!

old school crossflow on carbs, sign up on www.passionford.com and have a look, I seem to remember a few on there.

    ooooh.....
see thing is i want to keep it as standard as possible.

just a newer engine so old one doesn't keep stopping on me!

my friends got a mk1 1.3 Supersport, think its 83bhp as standard?

So that would be a cool engine to modify?

if you can find a good crossflow engine, that would be good.

get the 1.6 and not the 1.3 and also, when looking at finding a crossflow(if you do try) look for one with "711M" on the end of the engine number, as these were the strongest ones they did and were also used in the mexico race escourt's.

good set-up = 1.6 engine, 1.3 gearbox, twin webbers or R1 carbs (dont require any management on the crossflow engine) and then get some light head work and a mild-fast road cam.

you could also with this set-up run rwd quite easily.

CVH wasn't fitted to the mk1!
Mk1 had the Kent/Crossflow engine which is still used in the 1.3 Ka!

true, there was talk of pinto's and the cvh would go in with this hassle just a thought !!!

If i was you, and i had some spare cash laying around i would, strip it out, stick a rollcage in, buy a 2nd hand fiesta RS Turbo lump and stick that in there though some work might need to be done, then get some old skool mk2 escort alloys, widen arches, drop it, full exhaust system, you name it really

Would be one cool old skool car

Gonna cost you a fair bit in a garage but its worth it IMO, my mate had a mk3fiesta van, but hes converted it into a RS Turbo, customised the front bumper from a clio and the rear one from a vauxhall tigra

he hasnt properly driven it since the engine has been put it, its at the garage now its had a respray, seals and welding done but will be on the road soon

    Heres how it looks:
