what a legend lol! call the aa as you need the tank emptying and petrol putting in it pretty sharpish lol. its a common mistake so they can probs sort it out fairly easy. diesel in a petrol aint so bad as it will just stop running but wont bugger your engine to much, if it was petrol in a diesel then it would cost a bomb as that can kill the engine and mean a rebuild lol. give the aa or rac a call and get them to sort you out.

Its the other way around i believe its diesel in a petrol fucks the engine. So basically you will need a new engine!

Yep its diesel in petrol. Info - A Little bit of diesel in your petrol tank is a major worry. Petrol is designed to be hard to ignite, the higher the octane rating the harder it is to make it explode just by heating it. Diesel on the other hand is made to burn or explode easily when subject to heat. So a little bit of diesel mixed with the petrol in your tank lowers the octane rating by a huge margin and your petrol engine will detonate, knock, and destroy itself in relatively quick time.

my mistake then sorry lol. sounds like a new engine then...... why not do a crazy high bhp build? lol.

some one help me put her saxo back on the road.she wont shut up untill its back on its wheels.i no nothing about them.help me
  9. #9
Basically it sounds like your engines fooked. Which means a new engine at 100-250 ish and then fitting which could be a fair bit
  10. #10
Its too late when you've driven it around and sucked all the diesel into the engine. Afraid this could cost you a lot of money mate!

Its not the end of the world though. You can pick up VTR lumps up for cheap. How many miles has yours done? Is it worth rebuilding it??

You could always stick a VTS in it!

Petrol in a diesel engine is normally bad because diesel engines actually use the fuel as a lubricant where as petrol is very corrosive.

Diesel in a petrol its normally a good clean out and you are good to go.

quick fix: empty the tank, put 2 gallon of petrol in the tank, take the spark plugs out, tern the engine over itermitenly for 10 min, fit new fuel filter,
it will be a pig to start and it wil run like a bag of shit untill the petrol flushes the fuel system out, towing the car at this stage works best.

    or

take fuel tank off, compleatly empty the tank, take the fuel line off the engine and blow down the fuel line (on the engine side) to empty the fuel line, re-conect fuel line (engine side), disconnet injectors and blow down the fuel line (fuel tank side), re fit fuel tank, fuel lines and injectors, fit new fuel filter, take spark plugs out, put petrol in the tank, then get a mate to tow you round the block with car in 2nd gear, re-fit spark plugs, get your mate to tow you again in 2nd gear untill the engine fires.

    job done
    the engine will be ok...

there's no need to mess about so much.

take the tank off, drain it thoroughly, change fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fill with a bit of fuel, pop hoses off at rail, run fuel pump for 5 mins with supply pipe going to bucket, this'll flush the system, injectors should be ok after a while, if not then replace them.

I always thought that diesel in a petrol was rare as the diesel pump nozzles are bigger, and don't fit in the filler neck? Did it not make a mess?

How much diesel did you put in? You might be OK leaving the tank on and use the fuel pump to pump it into a bucket from the front of the car. Then just treat it to a full tank of unleaded... could probably change the fuel filter... It might be a bit smokey to start but would think everything else should be OK after a while...

Sorry Richie but I'm with teebag and axracing on the damage... where did you copy that info from?

i thought it was the other way around that diesle is hard to ignite and petrol is easy ie get a lighter put it to both petrol will light straight away diesle wont as it need's to be atomised to ignite am i right or am i missing some think?

so in theory all diesle does to a perol engine is flood it as the spark plugs cant burn it right?

My brother did this with his Vectra SRI (petrol) and it didnt ruin his engine, its if you put petrol into diesel you have to buy a whole new diesel engine.

im not sure how much it cost him but it wasnt alot..

The amount of times ive seen cars with petrol in diesel none of them needed a new engine, im talking about 10+ cars aswell. Some even run them till they pretty much stopped, just drain the tank new fuel filter and jobs a goodun
  22. #22
my auntie put pretol in her diesel and they drained it and yeah it cost a fair bit to drain over £300 but they gave her a full tank of dieseal , but im not sure what a putting diseal in a petrol car does one of my friends done it and it was knacked
