Right, I bourght some Mirror caps, last week, there currently Green, I am going to be spraying them red, just wondered should I sand them back to primer? or spray over the current green that's on there?
  2. #2
    sand them back
  3. #3
Sand them right back mate. Try and find furioal's guide to spraying wheels. Same principal applies

    cheers guys.
  5. #5
yeah, sand them right back mate.

then you'll get a better finish when priming, which will then give you a better overall finish once painted.

thanks jeeves use wet and dry? yeah?
  7. #7
sand them down with wet or dry sand paper, couple of coats of primer, same with paint and laquer.

work through the levels of grit with a medium coarseness and work into a fine wet and dry.

sand between coats of primer and leave as long as possible between colour coats

funny you should ask because i sprayed some silver ones red the other day
i didnt go right back to primer over the whole surface, only if an area needed smooting(they had some touch ups on them..
2 coats of grey high build primer, leave overnight...
3-4 coats of colour, i used 5 as the more coats you use, the better the colour...leave overnight...
2 coats of laquer, leave for 24 hours to harden
after every coat, use some 1200-1500 grit to prep the surface for the next stage
    stick em back on

basically the only reason you sand them is to make the surface a matt finish so the paint can stick to it, doesnt matter if its laquer, paint or primer..

Cheers nick, would I need some grit 600 to sand them back at first then use the 1200 and 1500 after every coat?
  12. #12
yeah as rem said start with a coarser wet and dry then gradually use the finer grit. i also used the fine one on the primer too. when you spray the colour do it in fine layers and let it dry otherwise it runs. and use a plastic primer

Finished Priming it now, just letting it dry now.
