Brake Fluid

Just wondering what brake fluid people use.

I have just done the 406 brake conversion an i think the brake fluid is the wrong stuff or just shite!

So people what stuff do you use?

Just any good brand DOT 5.1 will work well.

Awesome, i was using crappy halfrauds shite!

Halfords stuff is fine for a road car.

    Whats up with your brakes?

Soft pedal, bled them today but they are still useless, have to pump the pedal to stop, gonna bleed them again but i thought i may aswell get some quality fluid!

If your using a pressure bleed try doing it the old fashion way. Also have a good look to see if there is and leaks. Some times they just need a few bleeds. The brakes will always be softer with 406 brembo calipers unless you use a bigger MC

Ahh right i bought a 406 MC but i dont think they fit.

They arnt just soft, the pedal goes to the floor and i have to pump to stop.
and i dont think they are supposed to be like that.

tbh sounds like a leek? or else your pulling air from the master cylinder as it is not big enough/not enough fluid

may be a leak, ill get my old mans mate to check it out, started raining as i was fitting them so not to sure if i checked everything. ill check for patches when i move the car in the morning

No defiantly not. It very well could be air or if the fluid level is going down at all a leak. Check for leaks even if its not just to be on the safe side. Its also possible you caliper is not in line. I know the first time I fitted a set the discs I used were the wrong offset.

once you sort the problem with the brakes i'd use something like Castrol super dot 4 fluid. i've used it on a couple of track day cars and it copes with the abuse nicely
