What brakes?

  1. #1
Was looking at putting 307 HDI 283mm brakes onto my 106 GTI, which would cost me around £300 brand new with new callipers etc... and decent mintex or ferodo pads.

Been looking around a bit more, and am liking the idea of 4pots.

Can anyone tell me the main benefit with these as they are around double the price.

Is it purely better and faster stopping power?
Will the pads wear away more than just a normal big brake conversion.

What would you guys recommend out of Tarox or Brembo?

Reading about it says 4 pots are the favorite for a hatchback but 6pots are recommended for a faster car, i know my GTI isn't a super/hyper car, but is used on the track every so often.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andy

try willwood or hispec 4pots, they are a bit cheaper.
4pots are ligter than normal brakes. haveing more pots means more surface area and more fluid so heat soak isnt as bad. you cna choose your pad compound aswell so its up to ou if you get hard or soft pads.

Just been looking at the Hi-Spec ones.

What would be the best option out of -

    Drilled?
    Grooved?
    Combi?

    just grooved imo.

reduces brake fade, and wont crack the disc if you had a combo.

I would say 406 Brembo 4 pots are the way to go. There a direct fit and don’t even cost that much new. There also common so easy to pick up cheap used ones. They also have great seals so last a long time. I would say go for AP’s or Alcon’s as they both make some stunning brakes. However really the Brembo’s are fine so you may as well use them. I would tend to avoid most of the smaller brake manufactures.

What MC would be the best for the 406 upgrade?

Got any links to the Brembo 406 4 pots?

The stock MC does work but a bigger one would give a better brake feel.

There just standard Peugeot 406 V6 brakes. You just get them from Peugeot or any one braking a 406 V6.

have a look in the stickies danny did a guide for bigger brakes, 406 v6 will go on but its better to ue xantia v6 discs

the 406 v6 discs wont fit on, they are 303mm. you need to use 283mm discs.
