Best Place for Cold Air feed?!

  1. #1
I think perhaps the tiny little cut out in the slam panel of a mk2 Saxo is very limitting?

where else can I locate the cold air feed where I will actually recieve some cold air from?

    Any ideas?

    Under the front splitter...

I've heard the best place is at the bottom of the front splitter It's better to draw in cold air from as low down as you can

thats why i had to re-think my positioning. still not found a good place yet...

I still feel that getting it to the fog lights is the best bet, but then you have to
    drop one..
  7. #7
I would say perhaps in the mouth of the bumper? but then there is a Rad in the way...
  8. #8
The slam panel is the best place. It's not exactly the lowest point, but at least you won't pick up water from the road.

its a bit limited though wouldnt you agree Toad?

Mine is there... I've had no problems with puddles...
  11. #11
so your cold air feed in effect is in the lowest point possible.

Say a road is flooded about half a foot - a foot deep,
    will you suck it up?
  12. #12
I haven't had any problems with things like that... Even in them floods in the summer it was fine. I'll get a photo later for you...?
  13. #13
    yeah please do?
Cant see how it doesnt suck up water

the best place is the area of the car with a high pressure zone. Usually this is around the front bumper area towards the centre. If you look at the peugeot 406 touring cars for example they had two intake points here..

It's not limited at all. There's loads of room there, and it's a place where outside air is constantly being forced through.

    Sounds good to me!

But just remember Soulless, road car and race car. Two different things!

dunno, theres just grille slats and bonnet in the way of that tiny hole in the slam panel...

If you think its alright to leave my airfeed located here, I will.

I will try to take a pic for you later Soulless. If you look at the front area, you'll notice that there's a fair bit of the plastic from the fan that's kindda in the way. I cut a lot of this out, to aid air flow to the filter.

With the slam panel option, the bonnet sits over the intake area, blocking any bits and bobs getting in. It means that the filter stays much cleaner for a longer period of time, which helps in performance and maintenance. Also, water can easily get through that pipe, and I'm not just talking about flood water! A soggy filter is not desireable as I'm sure you know!

Do you notice that to be better VTR_Craig?

confession time - I'm a style whore and its fake just so i can get to the bonnet catch.

    Its been removed since then.

Personally would put it down to a wheel arch, away from the heat of the engine, like people customise a fog light to put a feed in it.

Glad you took it off. It looks pony...

AT THE FRONT BUMPER!!! Im not any engine expert but i am a good physicist. *Spelling*

The front bumper should be the highest pressure (air) point of the car. Because that is where the air is cut in 2. Place the cold air feed at the top of the black splitter should get any water puddle problems. Because hopefully the lower part of the bumper will block the splash.

Anyway that was my scientific iput thankyou
    lol

Pazog so your pretty much vouching for foglight intake?
  31. #31
i have fog light intake for my bmc, i used to have it at the slam panel and noticed a big difference went i removed my fog

you can kinda see it in this pic

How do I mount the ring in my fog light hole?
Also...did you notice any difference from the standard slam panel intake?
  33. #33
    Surely you woudn't feel anything?

you should be able to fiddle the ring into place.

when i was fitting my bmc i test drove it with the slam panel fitting and the the fog light and i found it more responsive in the fog light!!!

    Fair play...
  38. #38
Yeah Eoey i can imagine why the move from slam panel to fog made a difference.

Possibly because of the heat from the radiator?? Does that make sense?
  39. #39
yeah but also theres more air flow at the fog light less physical barriors etc

quite like the fog light intake and your car
  41. #41
did you have to drill through that little hole in the body of the car behind the fog light to put ur cold air feed in?
  42. #42
i have a 106 gti with bmc i put the feed down to the left hand side of the rad so it sucks air thru the small slated bit at the lower part of the bumper. away from engine heat, low, and still protected my bumper.

    pics please..
