Hydraulic Bonnet Rams?

  1. #1
I'm looking at getting hydraulic rams that lift the bonnet open when you open the catch. Does anyone have these? Also, does it matter what car they are from, as there are ones for sale from vectra + jaguar? Because I thought the length of them may make a difference.

    Cheers

I've got some from my 106 GTI, might be a better option? I took one off the front, and left the other, but I will taking the other off soon as i've got a fibreglass bonnet to fit when I get round to it... I also took one of the back...

Sure thing mate. I wouldn't want much for them at all... It's more the hassle of having to wrap them up and going to the post office... lol

At the moment, I have 1 for the rear, and 1 for the front. If you want 2 for the front, you'll have to wait until I fit my bonnet, which might be a good couple of weeks they way things are looking at the moment... Up to you chap. Also, the one on the front has a small crack in the plastic bit that wraps around the ball to lock into position. Still, nothing a little super glue couldn't fix.

Not a problem. Does it still open itself though its cracked? Also do you think it would open with just the one on the front? If so I would use that, and then if needed I could buy the other one from you when you manage to get your new bonnet on...

How you fixing them to the body of the car and the bonnet?
  10. #10
i have them on my gti. but when i had a corsa i brough a set and they came with little bolts with balls on the top which replace the std ones then the lifter just clipped on to each bolt and job done.

they only cost about 20 quid, took 5 mins to fit. look good and practical which doesnt happen very often lol

I think brackets will need welding in for these to fit on a saxo. I looked into it a while back, couldn't be asked in the end.

I'll take some pics for you, it should clear things up a little. And yes, you can get away with just one on the front, as that's what I've got now, and it holds in position just fine.

As mentioned above... How are you actually going to fit them to your car?

If they're gona need welded on I can get my mate to do it for me down in his work. Just do that then spray the weld

Hmm... The way they fit is like a circular hollow on the end of the damper, which slips on to a steel ball which is part of the bonnet and engine bay. I'm not entirely sure how you are going to do this.

I will take some pics for you tonight anyway mate.

    its basically a ball joint

weld a little blob on then pop the hydraulic arm into it

    then push the clip on.

    done
