Upgraded Brakes

  1. #1
My standard disks and pads are on their last legs and i will be needing a new set up for the new year. I need some advice really guys as to what to go for?

    im thinking;

    - standard size mintex 1144 with mintex discs

    - upgraded 285 discs (hi spec) with mintex 1144's (http://www.bigbrakes4u.com/spec-disc-front-p-439.html)

    - upgraded conversion? what do i choose 206/306 etc...

any help will be much appriciated guys.

206 gti 266mm set-up seems preferred over the 285mm due to there weight, or if you are willing to stretch then go for the 4 pot brembo's from the 406 v6 coupe's.

standard 406 pads with xantia v6 discs are the proven set-up iirc too.
  3. #3
285's or hi spec's you will need 15" rims or bigger...

i am currently running 16'' wheels, on the brakes guide it mentions that i will need extention plates? what are these and what grinding will be needed to be done for fitting?

    is this a good option?
  5. #5
if you go for the 406 brembo option, there is no grinding needed, nor are extension plates required.

will fit behind 16's, tho may need spacers of some size or desription.

these are £300+ without the spacers, was looking to spend around £200, cheers tho mate.

could anybody give me some info on the 285 hi spec set up?

what are extention plates? how much and where from?

    what grinding will be needed?

will their be much increase in braking performance compared to standard mintex all round?

hi-spec will be more than the brembo's, and the brembo's can be picked up for around the £200 mark.

    NO

V6 406 Brembo Calipers will fit straight on

You will need to throw the 406 discs away as they are too wide and will not letthe caliper sit on the strut.

You need to order Xantia v6 3.0l brakes:

    Website - http://www.buypartsby.co.uk

    Model - Xantia 3.0 v6
    Part No - SBG2690

Basically the whole set up should be £220-250.

You will probably need spacers. I have 17" wheels and they still needed 6mm spacers:

imo you have a banging car rem, think you need some banging wheels as those wont do the Pug justice.

thanks for the help guys, i think im going to go for the big brake conversion, 285 discs, just to be different.

what will be needed for fitting?

you've mentioned grinding and extention plates?

    thanks

two brembo calipers weighs the same as one normal VTS caliper.

Plus you need no grinding of the caliper, just a spacer and extended wheel bolts

Plus its a sexy visual mod too because even girls know what a brembo is.
  23. #23
Agreed Brembos are the way forward.

GTi6 brakes have nice stopping power mind...
    they just weigh ten tonnes

i mean, who has a grinder sitting at home?
  25. #25
