dastec

    are these any good?
one of the mates had one on his vts and it was quick but my old vts with similar mods but no dastec was quicker.
so i was wondering if anyone rates them, worth the money or not?

Its just a piggyback ecu, iuf theres any light mods like cams you can use it , but a remap of the origonal ecu will be just as good.

maybe your mates was mapped crap!
  3. #3
yeah, depends on the person mapping it, just like any aftermarket ecu. if your fitting cams that make peak power above standard rpm then it isnt really any good as it cant raise the rev limiter.

Dont get one, go standalone imo....
  5. #5
If you are to get one, make sure you've done a lot of other mods first to complement it.

IE manifold, exhaust, induction. THEN Cams and Remap (in this case Dastek) at the same time.

However if you plan on modifying the engine further - Standalone is the better choice

well i dont intend getting boddies or a turbo or supercarger (unless they are cheap lol)
i've already got ported and polished head, 4 branch, de-cat and pug sport and a bmc filter.
i was going to put some 708's in and the dastec

as i said, it cant raise the rev limiter so pointless.

I beleive some of the variants of the Dastek can change the rev limit - but depends on what ECU the car has i'm sure.

the new dastek uni chip Q (that we are dealers for) can raise the rev limit on any car + de limit and has all the features of most standalone units out there including

    Variable valve timing adjustment
    Rev limit adjustment
    Boost limit & level adjustment
Dual maps for use with different fuel grades & types
    Water Injection
    Nitrous oxide progressive injection
    Bigger/supplementary injector handling
    Variable induction control
    Launch control for turbo vehicles
    Full throttle gear changes
    Road speed limiter removal
    Speedo conversion for imports
    Shift light
    Idle speed stabilisation

also its far superior than a standard ecu flash over. the whole point of it is that you can go back to it and remap it like standalone, so say for instance you put some new cams in or try some throttle bodies etc you can simply bring it to us and well give everything a check over and sort out the fuelling and ignition maps to suit, works out cheaper then keep on getting ecu flashes and quicker.

old dasteks cant raise it on ANY saxo.

most of the features you just won't use for a N/a car. Personally if it was a mild spec engine then an ECU remap will be fine.

For a high spec engine then a quality standalone will be superior too..

Sure there is a market for the dastek but I'm just not seeing it at the moment especially as it would have to be mapped individually to every car to get the best gains same as an ECU flash / Standalone.

yes but the features are there to be used if needed. its a very good compromise in between ecu flash and standalone. and as said it makes tinkering with your fuelling and ignition easy and give you a few little good extras to play with that even a mild tune engine could benefit from.

we have had nothing but good response from customers and so many orders since advertising the new units, they have sorted out all the little niggles and problems customers had with the first lot. we do also offer standard ecu flashes and standalone so its not like were trying to push one product but for the money its fantastic. anyone whos doubtfull of it have a proper read into it or give us a ring

i've heard the old type can't be usedwith 3 plug ecu's, is this correct?
if they can't then i've got one i got off ebay if you want it ricky

a couple year ago when i was looking into getting 1 i called dastek. i cant remember if they said all saxo's needed a 'b' series unit or just single plugs and couldnt use them on three plugs. call dastek to check.

dan - how many maps did you say they would store? and how do you switch between them? can it progressively control NOS?

gmc offer them fitted and configd for £400 surely better than an ecu remap?

that site is years out of date and its the old dastek on there. and as ive said, the old ones cant raise the rev limit so wasnt really any good to wild cammed cars imo. + some people didnt want their looms cut. and i have heard of quite a few dasteks failing. another thing is any garage could (not sure about now) become a dastek dealer so depending on where you went you may be getting a shit map. i sold 1 on ebay a couple of year ago and the lad tried to tell me it didnt work, i told him it was probably shit wiring/mapping. after numerous arguments through paypal he sent it to dastek to be checked, unit was 100% fine and it was just shit workmanship. so if you deceide to get a dastek fitted make sure you know the fitter/mapper is top notch yo!!!!!
