Decent head jobs (oh er) go for alot. I.e £500+.

The 8v does respond very well to a profesional job, well worth the cash if your planning on running throttle bodies, lairy cam and high comp pistons.

GMC Motorsport, Longmans, QEP and HiflowHeads all do them.

I would recommend GMC and Longman. I hear good things about QEP but never had any work done by them. There are a few others I would recommend but you are talking big cash and they dont deal with the public. My last head was a bit over £1500 but it was something a little special.

I would also not recommend porting them your self. Even more so on the 8V engines. These are odd engines and even by following a good book on porting you can go very wrong. Not to mention that its actually hard to uses porting tooling.

PS forgot to say a good head is not just the port shape but there is a lot more to it than that. I have a feeling halfords don’t sell most of the equipment to do a proper job.
