   does anybody know what would benefit me more, a manifold or a cat back system? cant really afford both at the minute (christmas is a bitch).

   A decat would be the best place to start, and cheapest.
   
   Then get the cat back and finaly a manifold.

   yeah i was gonna decat it when i got what ever im getting fitted. just wasnt too sure which to go for

   I'd say start off with the cat back, pointless having a less restrictive manifold when the gasses are going to get stuck in the standard cat back system the car has.

   I'd change the exhaust first. Its an easier DIY job so you don't have to get anyone to do it for you. Just need a jack and a couple of axle stands
