egine conversions at MOT time

  1. #1
    hi

i was wondering if anyone could give me information on what i will have to do at MOT time if i go through with my saxo 1.1 - vtr conversion. will i have to change the engine back to 1.1? please help!!!

    thanks
  2. #2
no you wont need to change the engine back for an mot
  3. #3
Should be declared with the DVLA anyways so the MOT centre should know what engine it has anyways?
  4. #4
Tell the DVLA about the change of engine & engine size!

Probably work out more cost effective to sell the 1.1 & buy a proper Vtr!
  5. #5
may aswell go for a 16v engein if your doing a conversion.
just give the tester an extra tenna to pass it.
  6. #6
i dont want to buy a vtr. i'm still paying for my 1.1. its the new thing me and my mates are doing. putting bigger engines into 1.1 shells to scare the bigger opposition e.g sri's. one of my mates has recently put a 106 rally engine with modifyed ax gti gearbox and lightend flywheel into his R reg 1.1 106. it doesn't half shift. first gear 35mph, 2nd 75, 3rd 105 then goes off the clock at 110 as it still the origional 1.1 clocks with no tachometer.

put a 16v in. or buy a vauxhall and build a 350hp engine
  8. #8
Very interesting gear ratio's he has there, wonder how acurate those figures are.

It's easy enough to do, just make sure you declare to DVLA AND!!! Insurance company
  9. #9
you mean youd like to build a sleeper?
    Put a VTS engine in,
    much more smile factor.
  10. #10
my Xr2 is a sleeper twin 42 dellorto carbs, port and polished head, racing cam all within a standard looking xr2 hehehe
  11. #11
yeah the vts would be a better option, but the 8 valver is a better starting point. its easier to put in as there is less work involved.
  12. #12
oh btw your insurance will normally be more to insure a 1.1 with a 1.6 lump in than to insure a 1.6 straight off. Because your car has been modded for performance gains!
  13. #13
u r joking!!! aw well, what the insurer doesn't know, wont hurt me!!!

Please tell your insurance company because if you was to hit me whilst being uninsured I would hunt you down with a big bat!!
  16. #16
the conversion hasn't taken place yet. still trying to source parts localy
  17. #17
Just make sure you tell your insurance and the DVLA, because otherwise you will be driving with no insurance!!
  18. #18
if your going to do it but not going to tell your insurance or get it on your V5 then your not going to pass an mot are you?

come on mate dont be a dick, know what i meen.
  19. #19
how is it harder to fit a vts engine than a vtr? just the same.
if your doing a conversion at least do it properly
  20. #20
no. vtr is a str8 swap. no need to weld new mounts on. plus i already have the engine.
  21. #21
you'll only wish you put a 16v in when you get dusted off a vts or gti
  22. #22
yeah i know. but i cant afford to stump up the cash for a pro conversion. my mate can do the vtr, but he hasn't finishd his apprenticeship yet. another mate of mine has the vts engine in his ax that started life as a 1.0. £1200 supplied and fitted. now that thing can shift. under heavy braking the rear end gets very nervous as ther is no weight in it.
  23. #23
i do it for £200. you supply parts though.
  24. #24
I'll do it for £195 and proof your insured lol

You've got a point mate but at the end of the day its like saying you buy a Saxo VTS, get dusted off a Golf R32 and wish you'd bought one of those...
  26. #26
    *thread hi-jack* (sorry )

sorry for being dense, but i take it as...

aslong as your insured and the doovla know, there aren't any problems come MOT time?

as isn't there more room for emissions on a car with a different engine (to standerd)

and is the car re-banded (for road tax) automatically?

    thanks in advance!

thats not what its about, he's on about tuning his car to diappoint others so he may aswell put start with the best engine he can.
  28. #28

  29. #29

a 16v with throttlebodies is needed then. R32's arent fast. I was disappointed when one tried to race me in my 205 mi16. Even uphill he was rubbish. I thought torque won races

it means il nick 50 quid, the engine and the car lol.

thats why he takes the numberplates off the car, meets me in a carpark, puts the engine in my boot, and lets my mate drive off with his car

    was a joke lol.

id blow myself up tryin for real tbh

It will hurt you if you crash into someone and have to stump up money for both your own car and their car because your insurance is void.
  36. #36
come-on! it was a joke! as i said, it hasn't taken place yet.
  37. #37
16vs and 8vs are the same engine mounts anyway ?
  38. #38
    there not.
  39. #39
