Brakes Juddering - Quick answer please!

  1. #1
Just been to look at a car. It seems decent enough and the bloke selling it seems a reasonable guy. He's been very up front with what needs doing to it. The car hasn't been used for a month, and on the test drive, whenever the brakes were applied there was a heavy juddering sound from the rear. He said this had never happened before.

So what could this be? Will it be due to lack of use or something more serious?

Quick answer if poss please. Thanks.

is it discs or drums on the rear?

its an 01 furio, all as standard, so whatever that is.

It'll be drums on that model i'd have thought.

They are probably warped in some way.

Could be expensive if its the hub thats warped...

But if its just the shoes then theyre cheap as chips to buy.

im guessing it may be due to the fact its been stood for a while, as above tho if the hub is warped it's a bit of a bummer. get him to take it out a few more times then go back and see it again, once it hasnt been stood for a stupid amount of time. if it's still doing it, it's something more permenant than just seized brakes.

sometimes, my rear brakes stick when the car has been stood for a couple of days in the rain but they dont judder when braking only kinda snap out of a locking position when first moving the car.

ok yeh hes taking it for a few drives. hoping its nothing serious, it would be a bit strange for the problem to only just start and with no sign of it previously.

how much we talking to fix if its the hub? and how much if its just the pads?

If its hub then your looking at big money. You'd have to get one from a scrappy for maybe 100 quid and a pig to fit.

If its pads £20 ish and a piece of piss to fit!

But like peejous said, they may only be binding.

could it be that theres just a bit of surface rust or somethin causing it?
