Buying an Engine You Cant Hear?!

    Would anyone of you guys by an engine you havent heard run first... even if it has no warrenty..

    I've been collecting VTS bits for my conversion.. have ECU, loom, mounts, etc.. everything really except the engine and cooling system. I've spotted a couple in breakers but they are so far away from me.. (I live in Cornwall) so they have to be paletted up and sent down.

    No time I've heard the engine run, once I've got around to doing the headgasket, cambelt its going to have passed 30 days, so no warrenty...

    Dont know what to do?! Want VTS power!

    i have bought an engine i havent heard run but i was rebuilding it anyway. how much are you willing to pay for an engine?

    if its from a breakers the chances are it will work fine. most breakers wont sell a dodgy engine as they rely on you to go back and buy more bits to keep them in business and there reputation is on the line. iv brought an engine for my vts and i havnt heard it, im fitting it tomorrow so we'll see. if its fine then il reccommend him to you.

    Ordinarily id probably want to hear it run first.

    but,

    I bought mine with some service history and its been fully rebuilt anyway.

    Total spent on my engine so far is £4,500 and its not even in the car yet

    bloody hell mate, what you done to it?!

    This one i'm looking at getting not sure it has history but the place want £200 for it.. is it worth it you think? (thats without gearbox and clutch)

    what difference would it make if your rebuilding it though. everything would be getting renewed.

    Nah thats the cost its cost me to do the conversion so far, i think the total cost will be roughly £6,000 possibly more depending on whether i see many hiccups along the way.

    Engines going in with as close to new spec as possible anyway so it should last me a while

    VTS engine for £200 less the gearbox, inc. exhaust manifold. Its got 60k on it.

    I bought my VTS engine off a lad who had it for a week, then wrote the car off. I didnt hear it running.

    Needless to say it had been thrashed and I blew it up 4 days after it went in the car...

    Got it from a breakers in the end, close by, about 50 miles away.

    £165, inc. everything except gearbox, with 60k, and a months warrenty.
