Yet another raceland manifold thread

  1. #1
    Just a quicky though, searched and read through preety much every related thread on here. the jist is;

+ Theyre good for the money
    + Glow when hot
    + Give decent gains
+ Have a lower bracket unlike most other manifolds

    -Badly made
-Dont last long when heatwrapped, dont last much longer when theyre not wrapped either
    - Bolt holes need filing as theyre in the wrong places slightly

What I want to know is how long do they last? I dont drive hard all the time but when i get onto the backroads i like to have a bit of fun Dont wanna buy one if its gonna last 6 months before it cracks/rusts/warps.

    Cheers

imo id spend the cash on one that will fit straight on.

i tried to fit one of these and gave up

I've had mine for around 1 1/2 years and still going good !! On a mk1 btw
  4. #4
would just spend more for a decent gmc or supersprint
  5. #5
Cheers id looked at the Piper, Janspeed and supersprint but hadnt seen the GMC. Its well priced and it looks much better made, ill go for that. Cant rep any of you yet, will do later. Nice one

GMC or BTB if you can matey

I just snapped up a SS exhaust and SS manifold from Kam-Racing and im going to purchase some heat-wrappage tonight

For the money its really worth spending that little bit extra for the piece of mind and fact that you know what you are getting is direct fit and great quality

Plus Kam offer a discount on their manifolds

Very true, normally I dont skimp on parts atall, got the Silkoline oil for example. But im getting bored of the power and i wanna get a 16v lump in summer next year, so i dont wanna fork out loads for 8v parts, but i need a new fannymould.

Gonna get a supersprint system from kam as theyre universal fitment arent they?

My system is blowing and poo at the moment...plus with a RR day coming up in Feb with Cracknell and the CS lot i may aswell

Just bought Silkolene pro oil (£60/70 order on Opie Oils)
    SS centre section
Braided brake lines and 5.1 pro oil for when i bleed them

    Muchos monies spent this month!

    SuperSprint are universal fella

When the Zetec is sold i will get Cams and a remap along with the last few finishing touches for the summer

Thinking about running bodies and a new KMS standalone setup but dont think i can be arsed to splash more cash if im going to do what i told you

i have a raceland, and have never seen it glow, even after a long hard country lane drive for a fair while

i also managed to get mine on without filling holes, or bashing bits out the way, and so far i have no signs of warping, cracking or rusting.

The vtr one should fit all 8V saxo's and obviously the vts one fits the vts. I got one from kam for the vtr and it's good.

Not all war stories then, i have to admit i have seen a few in action but have never seen any glowing action

Do you need to run a Turbo to get a red hot glow? dont think a little Raceland would handle that power anyways...
    Pop goes the manifold

I always thought they were. Sorry for the hijack Ben...

I didnt really have many problems fitting mine, although the whole exhaust system now doesnt sit properly, but never had it glowing at all.

I would recommend it if you didnt want to spend a fortune.

will try to answer all the questions..

All the manifolds have 8v and 16v versions there are non that fit both cars.

The supersprint is the best made manifold out of all listed here.

Raceland does give decent performance gains despite the thin metals and inconsistant finishing quality. They do glow if worked hard. I was chatting to an engine builder we use who has recently had one on an engine dyno and at first shut down the dyno becuase he thought the glowing was a symptom of the engine running lean

Other downside of the Raceland is if you have a Mk2 with the cat in the manifold. It needs swapping for a mk1 oil filter and thread and a few other little bits

Oh another thing if you are running or want to run a wideband sensor then you should look at an alternative to the Raceland as they don't last long on them

GMC doesn't appear to be all its cracked up to be based on RR figures I've seen. I know GMC must have designed it to work well with a particular spec engine but I'm yet to fine out what that would be. Certainly for a non race engine the 4-2-1s appear to outperform it.

Raceland will last much longer than 6months. Should last a few years min

Its stainless steel....they are great value for money.
    Will last years dude.

I think racelands are great for the money!! Mine fitted fine all the holes lined up with the studs perfectly.I would save the cash and get one.

  24. #24
