Peformance guidance

Ok guys i dont pretend to know SHIT loads of performance mods just a basic knowledge of whats what.

Any with abit of help from a friend weve compromised a list of both performance and upgradeable parts.

However i would like some information as to wether the parts are right for what i want which is a generally faster car with a better 0-60 Time. Im not after an overall smooth ride etc or top end. Just want something that could possibly keep up with my mates standard GTI?

Anyway if any1 could give me advice as to which of the following 2 options would be best. Also any possible power gain outputs?

    Option 1)
Piper Ultimate Road Cam Kit for 1.4 & 1.6VTR 'Black Top'
    £441.00

    Hiflow Vernier Pulley
    £65.00

    Hiflow Competition Cam Belt
    £14.50

    Modifed Spark Plugs
    £20.00

    Ported TB
    £55.00

    Ported Inlet
    £50.00

    Lightened Flywheel
    £55.00

    ECU Remap
    £225.00

    FSE Boost Valve
    £96.00

    Total
    £1021.50

    Option 2)
    Hiflow 36mm Throttle body kits
    (ECU+TB's+Manifold+sensors+Loom)
    £1250.00

My current performance mods are, BMC CDA/Supersprint race system(decat)/Raceland manifold

With option 2, you may need headwork to get the best out of it

    "Option 1)

    £441.00"

    - Sounds a bit expensive for a single cam and, I presume, some stiffer valve springs? Newmans PH3 cam is a lot cheaper (around £150 iirc) and will be just as good, would just need to source some stiffer springs though.

    - Also, modified spark plugs, £20 ?? What are they? Surely standard are okay? IMO waste of money.

FSE Boost valve I wouldn't bother with, IMO not needed.
Competition Cambelt isn't really needed, but for £14 will be good.

I'd personally go with buying the cam and getting the headwork done, then getting a good remap and enjoy it.

.............. or drop a vts lump in and enjoy 16v's.

Option 2 will cost you more than that.

But if done correctly it would be the better option.

As raunchz said, drop a VTS engine in it. If your decent with a spanner then that cuts the labour costs out

how straight forward is the conversion? i have a friend who can do it, i know this cos he did an escort GTI conversion a few weeks back, just wondered how straight forward a VTS or even a GTI conversion is?

ok sorted... IM buying a 106 GTI lump and dropping that in. Ive had a word with my other mate who just done a 2.5v6 lump into a corsa and hes confident he can do it np. Seen a nice GTI lump for sale for a bargain price so!

Also just to check, i need the following items for a successfull conversion:

    engine
    gearbox
    ECU
    Loom
    Ignition Key + Transponder

I would personally stay away from Hiflow. I think the comment on fitting a VTS would be the best value for money if you only have about £1000. If you have closer to £2000 I really would look at boost. That is if your talking bhp per £. But if you want to NA tune a VTR talk to Longman or GMC. I also know MASMO have some very good used VTR parts in cheap.

if what you've stated is all your after then on that list of option 1, you really only need the cam, pulley, p&p throttle body and re-map.

fse is a no no, and some of the others aren't going to really see you much.

ok, i think im pretty much going to do a GTI conversion and cam/map that
  11. #11
Id get a proper vts engine with the right plug ecu as yours for a successful conversion. GTi loom has a few extra sensors iirc.

dont bother with the power boost valve.

If you're looking at spending a grand anyway, the VTS / GTi Conversion would definately make more sense.

IMO That could be done for £500 all in, Leaving you some money for Cams and a Manifold or something, Even more for your money then

pump up the tyres alot for a quicker 0-60, take off unessercary weight etc..
