please help - exhaust situation

my ashley exhaust system is too loud for me and the area i live in so i want a quieter one.

i want to just take the backbox off and put a standard back on it. will this defo make it quieter and will it have any adverse effects on performance, fuel consumption etc?

ashley is a known exhuast for being loudish... there is exhausts which are much quieter... ive got a 4-2-1 manifold.. supersprint race only centre section with a supersprint oval back box.... not loud at all its just nice..... magnex arnt really that loud either not sure about piper so if i was you i would just change the back box... there is an exhuast thread on here so you can see what different exhausts sound like

by just changing the back box for standard or vtr one will reduce the noise. on the ashley sysytem does it do away silencer in the center pipe? if so this would make it very loud. as well as ashley do 2 types of exhaust road type 2'' (the O/D) bore exhaust pipe or 2 1/4'' race type, the larger being louder, this isnt the bore of your tip on backbox but pipe under the car. hope this helps.

its not really the size of the pipe underneath either well it is a bit but all depending what back box you have on like i said ive got no silencers at all with a 4-2-1 and its just nice not loud at all.... my cuzins got a sportex system with a silencer in and its quite loud..... i think its just mainly to do with the exhaust... not the tail pipe size but what the exhaust is made to sound like

magnex exhausts are quiet even with a 4-1 manifold on so i would maybe go for a magnex backbox

Ive got a powerflow center section, with no silencers, so not much different from an ashley one as far as i am aware. (they have no middle silencer box). My back box is a peco boxer with 2 inch pipe diameter and 3 1/2 tailpipe. It sounds sporty but isnt loud at all.

Yes the noise will be reduced

No it wont as its only a backbox but i would just go for a different style or add a bung in without buying a completely new can
