Problems lads!!!!!

Hi any one any ideas my car is whining like hell in first and secound gear just satring in 3rd my dad who used to be a mecahnic says this is the gear box on its way out thinks its the lay shaft in 1st and 2nd gear rung up citroen and they reckon I need a gear box with the same numbers on it as my old one otherwise this may knacker up the whole engine is this true or not?

Any saxo gearbox will fit any saxo.
just one liek a 1.1 or 1.4 has shorter ratio compared to a VTR.

Sounds like some sort of bearing in the gearbox is knackered. Thrust bearing?

Does it go when you depress the clutch ??

only hear the noise while am driving when I ease off it stops only when the car is almost motionless cant say I have tried dipping the clutch mate Ill try that P.s the guy from citroen told me you cant fit a 1.1 in a saxo vtr only the 1.4 and the 1.6 but e advised fitting he vtr box again andays some numbers have to match up on the box

a 1.1 will fit a VTR.. will have great acceleration, but not so great top end.

sounds like the thrust bearing is scratching the pressure plate. had the same thing on my 1.1. 150 new cluch get a performance one! job done!
