These tires are so wank in the wet!

my car handles like a dog on laminate flooring!

so my quetion to you, folks of Sax-p, is what's the best tyre to for wet roads, as it rains 99% of the time in england?

I was thinking of Toyo TR-1s. any good in the wet?
  2. #2
The Toyo T1R tyres are recommended to be very good in the wet mate.
  3. #3
lol there not that bad really. Well not so bad in the damp or light rain. There a slightly more sporty compound than some so you do need some heat in them. What size tyres are you using? As in the wet big tyres are a very bad thing.
  4. #4
hmm i had these on my old rims, and was very happy with them, even in the rain
  5. #5
They are on VTS wheels so that size. lol

    i think i'm gunna try toyo's.

it might just be my driving if yours are ok danny. lol
  6. #6
Could be a fair few things matey. Tyre pressure, suspension set up, allignment...
  7. #7
I have heard that the toyo TR-1s are very good tyres and they are pretty cheap to.You can get 4 for £135 on ebay.
  8. #8
Toyo's any day of the week for me. Tried the Yoko's on my last set of alloys after previously being on Toyo's and they were absolutely rubbish and certainly wouldnt recommend them.

Needless to say im back on Toyo's again
  9. #9
yeah iv heard such good things about tr-1s, so think im gunna swap.

Toad - my suspension is standard atm, tyre pressures are 30/32 front 28 rear, i think?! n alignment is ok (I hope). lol
  10. #10
ive had toyo T1R's and highly recomment them for wet driving.

according to Toyo the tread pattern has been designed to stop aquaplaning.
  11. #11
Eagle f1's in the wet everyday of the week!
  12. #12
toyos 539 are the devils tyres in the rain saw so many saxos skid off at donnington track day in the rain an every one had yokos on scary shit
  13. #13
LOL yes yoko's are dangerous in the wet!
Ive got Goodyear Eagle F1 and they are brilliant in dry and wet!
  14. #14
ha ha 3 saxos off on the same lap glad i had uniroyal rainsports on
  15. #15
i have the toyo T1-S's on atm minute.i thrash her into the odd roundabout and havnt got her to let go yet.very grippy even in the wet

    T1-R's can only be better

    Toyo all the way
  16. #16

  18. #18

i had t1-r's i think they were on one of my old cars, and they were aweful, they wore so quickly and it was only a little 1.8 306 i used for dobbing around.

just my 2p really but i prefert kumho or f1's
  24. #24

T1Rs must be the most poular tyre on here lol, i done a poll ages ago & im pretty sure they won it by quite a margin!

    - Link
  27. #27
LOL yeh, on here maybe but from my experiences with them on friends cars i havn't found them much good at all
  28. #28
My yoko A539's grip like shit to sheet in the dry!

In the wet, well.... Erm... Grip??? Whats that?
  29. #29
    Toyo r888's
    Eagle F1's
Or TR-1's any day of the week then?
  30. #30
if you get a performance dry tyre then don't expect great performance when cold and damp. when the temp is under 6-8 degrees all tyres of this nature suffer a drop off in performance.

Out on track if you can keep heat in the tyre i've found 0539s to be fine even in the wet.. 048Rs were even better.

On the 309 when it rolls out the garage this year will be on Dunlops though as we're in contact with them to supply all our tyres. Their equivalent to the 048Rs are brilliant
  31. #31
Toyos i cant stand done a set in in undeer 20 laps on track.
A539 loved in the dry and had some fun in the wet lol
Yoko avs sports could not fault but i think they have stopped making them
uni roil rain sports i hate have them just now and have no grip..
  32. #32
on the sprint hillclimb scene, in the road classes which must use 'normal' road tyres (so no R888's etc), A539's are very poor. Proxes are a safe bet but people also seem to favour Hankook Ventus and Khuma ecstas. The shock tyre that every one raves about is the Scudo Stunner. Bear in mind that tyres in this type of racing need to work hard from cold, and in all conditions be it wet, damp, greasy or blistering hot tarmac so its a good gauge for a good performance road tyre. (longevity is the only thing noone takes into account)
  33. #33
i had T1-Rs, wasnt overly impressed, still got some on the back and get some chronic oversteer in the wet
got conti sport contact 2s on the front now and they grip like anyones business.... £81 each though..
  34. #34
i really like the yoko's i have them and no probs
  35. #35
Don't get me wrong, i think the A539s are great on dry roads. it was in the wet that i'm a bit disappointed with.

dont R888s wear very quickly? i think i'm gunna try TR1-s, they not too expensive, and the majority of people say they are ok (well the first page of this thread)
  36. #36
i have T1-s they are great, only downside is the car being so light, otherwise tires are superb!
  37. #37
I had the yokos and I thought they were spot on. I was really impressed when I upgraded from budget tyres! Now I now have yoko S.Drives and they are even better! Just keep gripping and gripping, noticebly reduced road noise and smoother, spot on
  38. #38
I've had Toyo's on my volcanoes, my VTS wheels and my supraleggras, I went back to vtr rims last month (Toyo's arn't an option for them) and I hate driving in the rain now. Seams a regular occurance that when I give it the beans coming off a roundabout the back end has a hissy fit. Miss having them to be honest..
  39. #39
upgrade to s rims cloud, reply to my PM aswell
  40. #40
What PM mate? not had one..
  41. #41
i went to the gararge today to order these, but he said they are rubbish and they are budget tyres! lol (toyos btw)

He said i want BF goodrich??? any good?
